Northern California Deer or Pig Ranch Lease

First, I'm new to this forum as it seems like the most active when it comes to California big game. I've been fortunate to hunt deer and pigs on some private land from time to time in California through a friend who has access but that means I don't have the freedom to go alone. I've generally been a bird hunter but have really been addicted to archery hunting. Now with 3 young boys, oldest just turned 7 i really want to get the oldest especially out in the field more. I've looked a little into Golden Ram/WU but it just seems like so many bad experiences and frankly i'd love to just have access to one ranch to know it and create a history of memories with my sons at the same property.

Does anyone know the best way to locate such a lease with a small group of members? Ideally it would be within 2 hours drive from Sacramento and mainly looking to archery deer and pig hunt. I would also been interested in Turkey property for archery as well. I shot one last year with my son and he loved it.

I have no problem spending good money on a lease as my number one goal is a safe place to hunt, enjoy our time and have a realistic opportunity at targeting game. I don't have a lot of free time with work and family so the times i can hunt i would prefer them to be enjoyable. I'm sure going a guided route would be better financially however i just don't like guided hunts (example i have duck blind which its not the greatest but my son and i have enjoyed it on the 4 hunts we have done this year despite the few birds). I'd rather learn, struggle and fail versus having a guide point me to each decision process of the hunt.

I also spend time out in Idaho and want to get my boys excited about hunting so we can continue the elk/deer hunting in Idaho on public grounds.

Really appreciate any ideas on best way to start the process to find a place to hunt (I am building points for the public archery zones and plan to have my first hunt in one in 2-3 years).

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would say stick with Idaho even Oregon youth hunting/fishing/shellfish license is 15 bucks and you can learn and hunt with your boys year after year.

You may want to check with Nick at Golden Ram. Pretty sure he facilitates small group leases too separate from "the club". Just a thought, good luck
