Normal winter kills

We?re Having a really good winter this year and I'm enjoying it, But it's easy to forget the little critters that don't.

Found this little guy frozen and imaciated. So much snow all the bushes and bases of trees are completely covered.

That is sad to see.
I know the deer can eat sage and juniper but I've always wondered what the chuckar and quail do when the snow gets deep.

Hey Homer.
Up here in Western Nevada we have over a foot of snow at the bottom of the hill. Hope them birds like sage brush to eat. Problem is in a lot of the burned areas there's not even any sagebrush left

He could very well have been old or sickly, but it was obvious his craw was empty and he was very skinny. It's amazing to see the birds and other wildlife take advantage of the road when we plow it open. They just gravitate to the bare ground, especially if there is a little sun shining.
