Its about time for the Goodale G3 Dec 1 hunt. Always good to hear the stories and hear what people are seeing. This past weekend snow storm should have sent some of those deer off the plateau into the winter range. Someday I'll get my hands on that tag. Post em up.

I hope to have some next weekend.......I'll be up there Tuesday-Saturday taking some photographs.

BOHNTR )))---------->

Is Nickman gonna be guiding anyone this year? When I get the tag, he's the first guy I'm calling to "reserve" him!

I got a pic from a friend of a giant 4x4 that they are watching down there.

I know exactly where that spot is. I'd recognize those manzanitas anywhere! HaHa. That's one heck of a buck. Wish I had a crack at him.

How much snow was dropped up above on the mountain with this last storm. That's a great looking buck.

6x7 would that happen to be Jed and Chris watching that buck? Jed has a tag but not sure if he's been down that way yet! Thats a dandy!!

LOL!

I feel sorry for Jed. He spent the time to go down there and scout and turned up this great buck. One I'm sure he would love to tag. After getting a few photos and showing them to his closest buds somehow the photo gets on here. BUMMER! Maybe these guys are not as close as he thought ?

I agree no one knows where that buck is except the preson who took the picture......people post scouting pictures on this site all the time for everyone to enjoy! Bigmoose the only way I would agree with you is if the person who TOOK the picture and sent it to his friends asked them NOT to share it. Otherwise pictures and emails get forwareded all the time.

Jed called us while we were in Colorado and asked for places to scout. This looks like the buck he saw and the photo he took. I know for a fact that he is very upset that it showed up here. Do I know if he said not to post it here ? No, I do not. I'm only saying he should be more careful about who he shows scouting photos to. My idea would be to post photos of me holding the buck ! Not my scouting photos. This whole thing will be a learning experience for him I'm sure.

That said....best of luck to you Jed!

Every hunting season you miss is one you can not make up

Whoever took the buck picture shouldn't get to upset. By the time season rolls around, other people more then likely will have seen this buck also. Then the challenge will be who will get it first. Last year there was quite the fight over one nice non typical up Onion Valley and thats on the paved road. ALso, most of the folks I have met over there for this hunt are not even on this site. Of course all that could change this year. ALso, looking at the snow fall so far, looks like this should be a good year. I do not have a tag but still planning on going for opening weekend, just like the rest of us who have had or are hoping to get this tag.

Almost forgot, thats a great looking buck. He will be one to keep an eye on for sure. Not sure if he will make 30 inches but he sure is pretty. Those of you with tags, please keep the rest of us without posted.

Glad to see that pic again It was my desk top pic for a year while I was single.

I have a ton of photos of him and the only thing I can say is "WOW" he is big. The only bad thing is he is fighting anything and everthing he can that comes close to his does. One more thing is since the last picture that was posted he has broken off one of his eye gaurds. Still a 180+" buck in my opinion. I say 26-28 wide and those back tines are just awesome. Watched him break off 3/4 of antoher bucks rack yesterday. He is a bruiser. Who ever gets him will be a true trophy. I hope he doesn't break any more of his rack off. I saw a real nice 5x4 in Division and he broke a lot of his points off in 1 day. Too bad he would have been a nice 160+" buck. Also I would say most of the deer are out of the mountains. Only saw a few up high and the roads are "snowed over" up high and not many tracks coming down. Many deer are in the flats.

Here is that 5x4 that got broke up in Division

Saw many of these 4x3 all over the place.

Good Luck and post up those pics ONLY 5 Days away.

Kurt-www.shootitimages.com

If he does break any of that main frame off I sure would like to see a pic of the buck that did it,That would be one h##l of a fight.

Kurt
Those are some great pictures. That is a stud of a Buck.
With all that snow everything is down or coming down.

Hey Kurt, good seeing you up there again.....by the way, I had some success calling in a bobcat to bow range! :)

BOHNTR )))---------->

LAST EDITED ON Nov-28-10 AT 07:10AM (MST)[p]Way to go Roy on the Bobcat lets see some pics on that one. Looks like you found that big guy again. We saw him down close to the flats the next day after I talked to you. How did the rest of the area look. Did you guys check out Taboose and Goodale Cks area? Good talking again Roy I will send out some other pics to you of what else we saw and ask more info on AZ.

King, the cell coverage is good did not have a problem forwarding pics I took to my buddies from up on the hill with my phone I have Verizon.

Later Kurt

LAST EDITED ON Nov-28-10 AT 11:56AM (MST)[p]As always, looks like there is going to be a lot of interest in this hunt again this year.

That beautiful 4X is really a smoker Cali buck...a good buck for anywhere. Was curious to hear from you guys that saw him, what he might score? Of the several different pics shown, he by far looks the biggest in the first pic posted. What, 185 maybe?

I'm also hoping Nickman will feel free to chime in from time to time. Though he's not the only bull in the woods down there, i've long enjoyed his input and view of how the hunt is going and when allowed to do so in peace, IMO, adds much to the topic.

Joey

Hey PC, do you guys already know where you're going to concentrate your efforts up there? If not, PM me and I can tell you about a few better than average bucks I saw and there whereabouts.

BOHNTR )))---------->

I think I know why that big 4x4 made it through last years hunt is I think he was the one that broke off the back half of his rack just before the hunt. I have a pic of a big 4x4 from last year that broke his rack and the buck that was photographed this year is close to the same spot I took this pic last year. What do you think same buck?
8183g3_4pt.jpg

Kurt-www.shootitimages.com

Maybe he'll break them again this year, and he can pass those genes on LOL.That big 3x that bowhnter posted needs to hit the dirt!
Good luck to you lucky hunters with a tag.
RS

LAST EDITED ON Nov-30-10 AT 08:13PM (MST)[p]Hey chap_dog48. I think this is the same buck you photographed last year after he broke his tines. I figured him to score 165. If it is the same buck, he grew 20 inches this yearhttp://www.monstermuleys.info/photos/user_photos/3922williamson_motel_008_-_

In those pictures that you just posted I am going to say no to maybe. The back tines of that buck on the left are too V shaped to be the same one as this year. The one this year has deep forkes also the front left frok on this years buck is a lot smaller than the one you posted. This one you posted is a bomber buck as well however. Now if that buck you posted and the one I posted of the far awy snow pic do look alike so who knows may be? Who knows.. I know Nothing in terms of judging deer I see a big deer and thats what I tell everyone that is a big deer. Some of the guys on here can tell with in the inch of the size of a rack. Sweet pics. Thanks for sharing.

Kurt-www.shootitimages.com

You are very welcome Kurt. I'm going back up there tomorrow morning to photograph the deer again. I'll post pictures when I get back on Monday. Being unemployed has some plusses. Jerry

Could be the same Buck, if not he in the same family. That broke off antler saved him last year but this year he better hurry and break it again or it will be the freezer for him.

That is a monster 3x3 hope some one with a youth tag finds him.

"I have found if you go the extra mile it's Never crowded".

Jerry if you remember last year before your hunt, that pic I post was right when you and I and Wally were stopped on the road and started talking. Also are you still up in Independence.

Kurt-www.shootitimages.com

Poor Bucks, don't stand a chance. I wish I could wait 6+ years to draw a tag where I could should a giant without the hunt!. Give me any tag and I will be happy to hunt. Good luck to all of you with the tags. I think the tags should be given to veterans, 65+ or handicapped.

I'll second that statement.

A friend from Bakersfield got the 4x4 28 wide thats on here and there was also a 3x5 thats 33.5 wide shot.I will not post pictures. Its there hunt.

Hell, if they added "retarded" to the list, Kilo would be a shoe in for the tag! HaHa.....just kidding Brian!

I wanna see some pics.

I've been in Independence with a friend for the last 5 days. We watched the big 4x4 for 7 hours the day before the season opened and put the buck to bed. He was in a draw where no one else had seen him for almost a week. Some guy in a white jeep cherokee sport drove in the dark opening morning and parked within 80 yards of the buck's bed. Needless to say he spooked most of the 80 deer that were hanging in the area. The buck ended up near the mine road parking lot, where he got shot by a guy named Dan. Congratulations Dan!

Here is a picture of a little buck that dissappeared the day before season opened. I swear the deer read the hunting regulations!

A father and son team applied as a party and got drawn. Bob shot his 26" wide 3x3 -2 days ago and Brian shot his first buck today. The 28" 4x5 fell on his second shot. I guess the fever hit the kid pretty bad

Coyote1, Thank You for the pic's!! Though i don't put in for that hunt and probably never will get down there to look see, it's nice to see and hear what's going on and/of the better bucks that are being hunted.

Thanks again and guys, more story's and pic's would be appreciated!!

Joey

I agree with Joey....I'd love to make it up there and spend a few days glassing but it just isnt possible for me. I'm sure the two weeks before the season opens gets enuf pressure as it is with the same types just going to get a peak of some good deer. Hopefully, those that are just viewing...stick to just viewing. I'd hate to have this tag and know that the weeks prior, the deer have been photographed and pushed by tons of guys just wanting to see some bigger bucks. Hopefully, they're being respectful of the hunters who will be hunting the area. I understand why this happens as I'd like to see the bigger bucks...but this is a very special hunt and I think out of respect for those who have drawn the tags, stay out of the area and let those bucks be. Just my opinion....One of these days, I'll draw the tag. Congrats to the hunters who have connected already!

Steve
I got put in time out for a bad signature! Sorry Founder...

I never considered viewers pushing bucks out before the season, because the rut is on-going? Food for thought though. If one was to visit G3 before the season, I am guessing he or she might have a different opinion, who knows? Of course any hunt may have persons trying to wreck a territory before or during the season. But I have never seen this happen before the late season mule deer hunts. Has anyone seen bigger bucks run out of the area pre season? Maybe I do not know the bigger buck?s habits like I should! The picture is from a video clip Nov 26 2010 in G3. This guy walked up to where two guys were on an AVT within 30 seconds after they started it and drove off. Of note he did not go away from the ATV but towards it. I was back a 100 yards watching this happen. Yalo

Hey Yalo. I appreciate everything you have said. I have been shed antler hunting in that area since the early '80s and I've been seriously photographing the deer in that area for the last 5 years. I have never seen anyone in the area trying to purposely disturb someone's hunt. I drew the tag last year and had a large non-typical deer picked out. This person I know went scouting one day when I couldn't make the trip. He found "my" deer right next to the road. Since he was chuckar hunting, he grabbed his shotgun and walked around and shot like he was shooting at birds to spook the deer away from the road. The deer never moved. There are chuckar huntars everywhere- even during the hunt.....Jerry

Thanks Jerry

Anyone else with feedback. Picture is another lifted print from a video clip of 2 brusiers fighting at about 150 yards from me on Nov 30 2010 in G3. Not something ones sees often! Sorry it is not a better print....And I saw bird hunters this trip about 1/2 mile from this fight! Yalo

Well, a week of the G3 is over and I thought I would show some bone here.

These bucks were taken by Monster Muley guys.....who I will leave to them to identify and post their stories.

I will say that, as usual, I have met some great guys and had one of the best weeks of hunting in many, many years. I woke up this morning, still laughing my azz off at the great time we all had.

All of these deer were hard earned by the respective hunters.....no off the side of the road stuff here.

Sweet!! love the bood light in the back of the truck!

Brings back fond memories for me. I have parked in that exact spot several times chasing lions around (with F&G). I really miss that job and area.

cant wait to hear the stories... must of got em somewhat in the same timeframe eh?

Nice deer, Nickman. I was figuring you'd be showing up here on this post soon. I'm sure you guys had a good time. I see you were slowly trying to poison them with the brand of beer. Who drinks Bud Light? Is your name Senor nickman? HaHa! Cool picture...

Steve
I got put in time out for a bad signature! Sorry Founder...

The first and fourth bucks are the same deer in post #62. The second deer was taken by a hunter named Dario. I do not know the person who took the third animal. All very nice bucks. Way to go!!!

Received this from Paul Crawford just now.
The hunt took place from Dec. 4-10, 2010. Bob Nelson drew first blood with a nice 26" 3x3 on the 6th, Bob's son Brian was next on the 7th with his first buck, a 26" 5x4 very tall, Will on the 9th with a 25" 4x4 very symetrical and heavy, and Dario on the 10th with a 4x3 with very long back tines.

My Thanks to all for such a great thread! Thanks to a bit of a early winter this year, looks like there was some real nice bucks to be had.

Great bunch of pictures and some very nice trophies taken! Congrats to all the successful Hunters!!

Joey

Just received an e-mail of a pic of G3 buck from this year, dont have permission from the guy who killed it to post pic as it came from a friend of his. It was over 30" with a 4x2 frame that looked to be 28"-29" with a huge kicker on the 2 point side and a small kicker on the 4 side making it a 5x3. Anyone see this buck there before as it seems all the big bucks getting killed on this hunt were scouted prior to the season.

THANKS FOR ALL THE PICS, CONGRATS TO THE HUNTERS.......CANT WAIT TO GET BACK OVER THERE (IF THAT EVER HAPPENS). DON.....YOUR A GOOD EGG...................YD.

These bucks aren't the studs that people have been taking up there but they are lookers.

Nice bucks. Are there anymore pics of Goodale bucks out there? If so post em up! Don't want to wait till next year.

Thanks

is this G3 hunt in an X or D zone if so which zone?
for example, "the G3 hunt is in the X9a zone" or, "the G3 hunt is in the "west portion of D8 zone" this is what I am trying to figure out.

looks like a portion of one of the x9 and maybe the east side of a D zone. I am unfamiliar with this hunt but it is obviously a winter range hunt so that means the x9 and or a D zone has some nice bucks, never been there but I guess some pretty rugged Mtns are the summer range.
