Shed Hunting season

So is there a shed hunting season in place starting January? Can someone tell me where I can read the regulations? I cannot seem to find them.

I saw your post...I'm curious, too. I just fired off an e-mail to NDOW requesting info. I'll post when I find out anything.

Hey guys. I don't know for sure where you can find it, but I do know that they passed a new shed season date for Nevada that starts this next year. You can not shed hunt until April 15.

Here is an article I just found by googling Nevada shed hunting laws. It is out there. It may even be on the NDOW web. I haven't tried looking there yet, but Im guessing it's there somewhere.

Sorry, tried copy and paste, but only pic showed up. Google Nevada shed hunting laws and you will find it. No touching a shed antler in the state from Jan 1 thru April 15. I will check ndow website, but if you search it where I said, you will find it.

Just went to ndow web and typed in shed laws in the search at top right. Then scrolled down to the www.ndow.org link. You will find it right there as well.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-12-14 AT 10:59AM (MST)[p]I am thinking that there will be a lot of people who are not aware of this new law. The only reason I know about it is because I remember seeing it here last year. It does not seem like it has been given a lot of attention. I understand the reason for the law, but I truly believe you are punishing the law abiding citizen, and there will be people out there collecting more sheds than ever in March. Nevada has a lot of country, where a person will be all by themselves. I never saw one shed hunter where I was hunting last year. There were other people hunting it, but not on days I was there. Tough if not impossible to enforce. I will still be out walking around looking, just have to gps the antlers and hope other people will not steal them before April 15th.

The reason NV put the shed hunting law in effect was to keep people from harrassing wildlife during the harder winter months. By "just looking" you are still harrassing wildlfe, even if you say your just marking on gps for a later day. Tough to enforce yes, tough to have ethics and leave them alone no. If you mark them on gps are they really yours? I hope no one steals "your" sheds that you have worked so hard to find. Looks like your from UT, you should hunt your sheds there.

Yes I am from Utah, but probably live closer to the place I like to visit in Nevada, than you do, or 99% of all people that live in Nevada. What does an imaginary line have to do with it? I love the outdoors and the animals. I don't want to hurt them in any way. I can promise you that it will be us law abiding citizens that will be hurt as far as picking sheds up. I bet a ton will be picked up before it is legal. I probably shouldn't have said "my shed". I honestly feel like a guy can be ethical and still go for a hike in the middle of March. No snow, no chasing deer or elk, Yes they may bound off for 100 yards and stop and look at you. If it is not ethical to go for a hike, then I guess it is not ethical to drive your truck through winter range as well. By the way, I have nothing against Nevada people, and I have no idea why you have something against me. Yes, I probably did word it a little wrong. I just hate to see the honest guy get taken advantage of. Just like when they close a road down, so you hike your butt off to get into somewhere to hunt, and here comes another guy driving up the closed road. Either enforce it to make it fair, or make a huge penalty for it, so when a person does get caught they get hammered. I just don't believe this law can be enforced. Maybe here and there, but as a whole no.

Nothing personal against you. Maybe it was worded a little wrong when you stated that you hoped no one steals what you have marked, and that's what set me off.
Just like hunting, i don't care how long you have been watching a peticular animal, shed, anything, if i come along and find it, then to me it's still fair game. Nothing personal.

The shed law was put in place for a reason. I personally don't hunt sheds, never really got into it. I don't believe it's possible to enforce this law very well either. But as an example it's not easy to enforce poaching, doesn't make it right.
Good luck.

It sounds like we had a little misunderstanding. What I ment by someone stealing my shed, was that for someone to come in prior to April 15th and picking it up. Just like you talk about an animal you have watched, is not yours, but if someone comes in before the hunt and kills it, then it is not right. If someone kills it opening morning before you do then thats part of hunting. If someone finds the shed before me on or after April 15th then I have no problem with that. I am just asking for a level playing field. Good luck to you also!

all that I can find is meeting minutes and draft proposals on ndow.org So NVGUY2 you can wait until Apr 15th. More for me. Until someone can produce the actual law went in effect.

Talked to someone at the HQ in Reno today (12/30). They told me to contact the Game Warden in my Area (which would be Southern Reigon for Pioche/Lincoln County) and he would be able to explain ALL? I plan to do this when I get A Round Tuit! ;-)

I received this e-mail reply from an inquiry to NDOW. Apparently not an official Shed Antler Season as of yet.

Hi Pete,
I believe I remember you from your time at the State Park at Eagle Valley. Anyway, there is no current season or restrictions that are different from years past. The Commission is hearing the issue and is trying to come to some sort of decision on the issue. There are too many different variables on the table to consider to make a guess on what will and will not be required at some time in the future as far as seasons, license requirements, etc. Keep checking our website to keep tabs on the issue as I'm sure it will be big news should something be decided. In any event, should a decision be made, it is doubtful it would be initiated anytime before this "shed-hunting" season. Hope that answers your question. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any further questions or clarifications.

Thank you,

LAST EDITED ON Mar-05-16 AT 06:53PM (MST)[p]I do know a law proposed a law a few years back. That you must have a hunting license to go shed hunting, but if you are out coyote hunting and pick one or 2 up you are legal

Don't know what if any hunt regulations/seasons exist, but I've been finding sheds (mostly last years "whiteys"). I've also encountered two camps of shed hunters, so I assume the "hunts" are on. I have been out starting around March first. Most bucks I've seen are still packing both sides.
