Junior hunters first buck

A kid at church was really interested in hunting so I told him if he takes hunter safety I would apply him for a deer tag. He did and he drew unit 24. Saturday was the first day we could hunt. As the sun came up we spotted a couple does and a few small bucks. I told the kid it was is hunt and he could shoot whatever he wanted but he decided to pass. We kept glassing and after awhile I spotted a 3x4 coming over the ridge. The kid decided he wanted the buck and I agreed it was a good ob especially for a first hunt. The kid made a perfect shot and the buck didn't go far. Soon after the shot a 28" wide 4x4 that was heavy with deep forks bested out of the trees behind the buck. I'm sure glad the kid didn't understand how big of a buck it was because I didn't want him to be bummed. The kid was so excited about his first buck that he could care less about the big buck. Took some pics, quartered him out, then hauled him out.

Congrats to the hunter, and kudos to you for taking the young man hunting! It's definitely no all about the antlers:-]
