New Rules for Carrying a Sidearm While Archery Hunting?

I noticed updated language in the hunt book in the archery regs section, "It is unlawful: For any person to carry any rifle, musket or handgun equipped with a telescopic sight or with a barrel length of 8 inches or more in the field while hunting under archery regulations (i.e., an archery-only hunt)."

In the past it has said "It is unlawful for any person to:
(a) Carry any firearm in the field while hunting under archery regulations." Which is still what I read in the NRS (503.144).

As an archery hunter not being able to carry a sidearm even with a CCW has always been an issue for me. The new wording seems favorable but if the actual law hasn't been updated I am unsure what to think. Maybe I missed something... anyone heard more about this?

Not sure in Nevada but this law changed a few years back in Oregon as well. Archery hunters not allowed to carry a firearm was considered a infringement on our second amendment rights

Close encounter with a bear a couple years ago while I was only armed with a stick and string prompted me to carry my 45 from here on out. Just saying.....

They changed it last year so archery hunters can carry a handgun for added protection against predators. Not sure why they didn't change in the nrs, but remember reading about here in local paper. You can carry as long as it's under a certain length.

Wouldn't worry so much about predators. To me more of a self protection issue. Never know these days when your going to run into someone's illegal marijuana grow or meth lab. Those people will do anything to defend there illegal activity.

Feel free guys to discount bears and lions if you choose, I had a bear at 20 ft snapping his jaws with no chance of stopping him with my bow if he so choose to charge....just saying. Yes I to am very aware of human encounters as I hunt the Gila often and illegals are a valid concern without doubt. But please don't mock those of us that have been close enough to 4 legged preditors to make you wish you were better equipt .
