Collared Lizard

I have a favor to ask. My son has caught just about every reptile and amphibian that lives in our area, but has yet to catch a collared lizard. We are going to spend some time in the Winnemucca/Denio area this summer and I am wondering if anyone can point us in the right direction to find some. "Not looking for anyone's secret spot, GPS coordinates, etc."( :D ).
Thank you, and good luck on the draw!

I was just north of Reno today at the Silver Arrow Bowmen archery range and we saw at least 10 during a 6 hour shoot.

Wow! We have family near Reno and so will get down that way pretty soon. Thanks for the help, Tilzbow.

Is a collard lizard also known as a horny toad?

Has he caught any leopard lizards? They are not so common, but I've encountered them with the same frequency as collared ones.(both common to the Great Basin)

Got it...big difference. :)

Yes, NVPete. We have gotten into quite a few leopard lizards on the flats just south of Denio (Bilk Creek). Also horned lizards. Most of my experience with the collared lizards, however, is well to the south, and I do not want to travel that far.

Nice photos, by the way. I have to learn how to post 'em up. I haven't had much luck just following the instructions...

I know there are Collard's in southern Utah (in and around St. George).

Has he nabbed a Zebra Tail? I found those to be the most challenging growing up. I only caught 2 my entire life. Those things are FAST.

Also, what about a Tree Lizard? I have not seen these things in forever. We used to catch a ton in the wash as a kid but I cannot seem to find them (would be cool if you knew where some were at).

No, no zebra tails yet, but that would also be great to see. I am not familiar with tree lizards, but if that is one in the photo, then it looks like what I have always called "blue bellies." I guess they are probably another variety of Western fence lizard--as I also assume sage lizards to be.

Thanks for the info on St George. For now I have to stay a little closer to home.
