015 Late Deer 12/21 - 1/1/17

My son has a late season rifle deer tag in 015. We're pretty familiar with the area from chukar hunting in years past, but would greatly appreciate any more current info anyone might have from this Fall/Winter. So far I've heard to try up on Painters Flat and above Squaw Creek Res. Thanks!
 
I saw a handful of great California bucks from 5b if i was hunting 015 I would be close to the state line if possible
 
Thanks for asking, yes! We spent five days hitting it hard in the mud and snow within a few miles of the California border, only seeing forkies, spikes, and does, and then finally got this nice buck on Christmas Eve morning. Biggest deer either of us has ever gotten, and definitely one of our best hunts/trips!

Good job ! I've noticed the horn structure of your buck in other areas of Nevada. To far away to be genetic , I missed a buck on my area 10 archery hunt that could be his twin . Congratulations

Hey did everyone already hear that NDOW lowered the waiting period for antelope to 3-years, and 7-years for elk?
 
Wow, that's an awesome pic, thanks for posting! I learned that much of 015 is a winter range for California herds, so who knows, that might not be from a lion kill or archery hunt, but rather just old age :)
 
I know a lot of locals quit applying for 015 in the last 5 years. Best bucks I've seen in that time period were 3-5 miles on Kali side BUT a buddy saw 2 separate pigs early, while scouting for antelope 3years ago.

Need a tag, then some luck.
