I heard the Nevada DOW was going to hammer a bunch of does after the big Hot Pot fire. Can anyone provide an update on whether that happened and if a person should write off that Tuscarora country for a while?

Be serious gents...............:)

Thanks.

They killed 226 does on the emergency doe hunt. They plan on hitting the population more so I think area 6 will be ok this year but it will start taking its toll no doubt. They think because an area burned the deer are going to hit that area and lay over and die because the feeds gone. They aren't stupid they will find feed it's the will to survive. This entire emergency depredation ploy was an easy was to make a ton of money for ndow. I'm thankful they only killed 226 out of 1000 tags. It that's still 226 that would have had fawns this year and added to the population so it will be seen in the population. Hope this helps with your question

LAST EDITED ON Mar-16-17 AT 09:27PM (MST)[p]How much does one of these depredation doe tags cost?

Glad they only filled a quarter of the tags though.

Thanks for your help. Not as bad as it could have been, but it is as I assumed. I never understand some of those decisions.

The problem is that deer can't ration. They eat when they are hungry. When there is no more food they start dropping. Some might make it and have enough energy to get far enough to find food.

Deer are set in their ways, so the old deer go to the same spot every year.

There are only two options. Feed the deer or reduce the population enough so that they won't eat it all, which will kill an even higher percentage of the deer.

There was a good discussion in the deer forum on here regarding what the person had done.

Also, call and talk to a biologist. There are also many books on the matter.
