Drew a probably 1 in 500 chance at a elk tag and looking to maximize it by hiring a guide. Wanting to hit the Wilderness and stay the entire season if that's what it takes. Any real solid recommendations for a guide/outfitter? Yea, I know the dates are tough mid Aug, but that plays into my hunting strategy perfectly. Spot and stalk.

Beastn I would highly recommend you listen to full draw full time podcast episode 49 where Rodney York speaks in length about his hunt in 72. Seems like a really good guy he spent 20 days scouting and hunted the whole season. He is part of bent now productions out of California. I drew an early rifle tag so I would love to be in touch to exchange some info. Heard the bio is very helpful also thanks and good luck

I drew the same tag. I was not expecting to draw this year. I was in the wilderness on my brothers archery deer hunt last August and saw some good bulls and decided to put in. I am planning on hunting the first 10 days of the season. Congrats on the awesome tag. Hopefully we will both get to share success stories on here.

No. I think i am going to just DIY. I am just trying to figure out if i should hunt closer to the road so i can cover more country or backpack in and go where we were deer hunting. My goal is a bull over 330" and last year i saw a few that size. What is your goal?

Patriot, my goal is to evaluate what I turn up with the glass and focus on the more mature bulls I find. I would have a hard time passing on a 350" class bull the first day.

I have hunted the wilderness quite a few times in the last couple of years and 360ish was the biggest bull I saw in two years in the wilderness. Saw a 380 north of the wilderness in archery. I spent over 30 days in the wilderness and 14 north of of the wilderness 2012-2015 pm if any of you have questions

Mixed reports, Wilderness small bulls, non wilderness big bulls?? This is backwards of what I would of thought, but I realize I do not know the unit and anything is possible. I am willing to hunt the non-wilderness but ATV's will frustrate quickly should they become a factor.
