In almost every post asking for unit advice, the person posts that at some point they are going out to scout. It could be that the unit the hunter has drawn is a substantial distance from where they live, and/or finically they can't afford to make the long drive to scout as much as they would like to. In a case like that the person posting is just looking for a starting point to make what few scouting trips they can make more productive. As a person responding you can either PM them or give them help by saying North of HWY 123 or on the Eastern side of the XYZ Range. This is not giving away any particular honey hole but it does lend an individual with a general starting, and forces them to still scout. I posted looking for just a starting point in 111 for mule deer. I got one response from a man who hunted elk in there. Now it's a shame with all the elk and mule deer hunting that has happened in that unit over the years, that more people couldn't have even said "check north" or "stay high". I grew up in Colorado chasing big Mule Deer and Elk and guided for a number of years and when someone asked me a question I helped them out. As sportsman we should be eager to lend a helping hand to one another, but I'm not suggesting that means giving people the exact location of your best spots. A modern hunting forum is like the old mountain man rendezvous, you should share stories and tips. Just don't give away every secret you have.
