Unit 6 Archery Deer

Finally drew a NV tag after years of building points. I plan to make a scouting trip in July. From the research I've done it looks like my time will be best spent focusing in unit 61 and 62.

I'm going in blind so if you have recommendations for the best access roads into the units as well as places to set a base camp with a trailer and 4-wheelers it would help me out.

We've hunted a few times out of Midas. Good access right out of town. You don't see a ton of deer, but when you do, it's usually a buck. Lots of sheep up top as well. We put a hunter on one that he ended up killing. Rarely see another hunter up there.

Lots of access roads up around mountain city, some go south some go north. They do get a little soupy when wet but you can pull a trailer just about anywhere. There's deer everywhere too. Have fun!

I hunted This unit 4 years ago. A friend of mine guided in this unit for a while. I will tell you where i was hunting. The area i hunted was really good until a couple other hunters showed up and refused to work together. They purposely followed me around being as loud as they could and when ever they saw me stalking a deer they would start yelling and run the deer off. When i talked to them they told me they were residents of Nevada and that that was their hunting area. They told me i had no right being up there as a non resident. That is the only reason i have not been back to area 6. We saw some good bucks up in one basin.

Thanks for the information and starting locations. Hopefully, I can find a few big boys to hunt. PM's returned to those that have sent them, thanks!

It is against the law to harass a hunter or interfere with a hunters hunt during hunting season in Nv, I would have called a game warden.

I just returned from a 4 day scouting trip in units 61 and 62. I was shocked at the lack of deer.

I was surprised that the highest elevations still had some snow. Was there a large winter kill or were my expectations unrealistic?

I saw about 20 deer of which 10 were small bucks. The biggest is going to be about a 140 4x4. What have you seen in past years? Is it just a down year or is what I saw normal? Is it not realistic to expect to find 170+ bucks in this unit?

I can tell you this...unit 61 for deer, sucks...lots of elk though....I would hunt some of the other units in your area. I got a unit 7 tag this year....bucks are smaller this year than normal...sure it has a lot to do with the tough winter....it's the cycle thing...The country is beautiful though, ain't it.

Sorry to inform you, 067 and 068 is on fire. It started north of Izzenhood ranch and has moved east along Rock Creek road I am gonna say 30 square miles have burned

I have the area 6 archery elk tag, got it as a alternate the other day. If anyone out there deer hunting or scouting is seeing some good bulls and doesn't mind passing it along I'd appreciate a lead. I'll be up there scouting in 2 weeks in the spots I know, hoping they're still in there.
