Hey There MMers,

I drew the 076, 077, 079, 081 late hunt for Elk. I have not been to this area before, but I am willing/able to put in the research.

I'm going to start buying maps and making contacts as soon as possible. I am a Huntinfool and Epic Outoors member, so I will have some research options there.

I'm looking for suggestions of the best maps to purchase for this hunt, so I can begin my research. Any thoughts?

Also, any other pertinent information that anyone is willing to share would be appreciated.

Thanks for any help you all are willing to provide!

I've got the Archery tag. Super excited. Headed out for 2nd scout trip tomorrow. Lots of areas to choose from.

If anyone is scouting up in 081 and sees some cows let me know. Will be helping a buddy on a depredation cow tag that opens August 1. I have hunted the area for bulls but definitely not cows in August so I'm interested to know what their habits are then.

I can give you some info on finding cows pm me. I've spent a lot of time up there and never had to hunt more than 1 day for cows.

I'd would be prepared for the conditions. Chains, tow cables, 2nd vehicle etc. I wouldn't count on cell service either. It's desolate and that late hunt get's below 0 at night. I stay around Rock Springs and hunt north/north east up to Goose Creek.

Goodluck!

thanks for the info. im familiar with goose creek and wine cup area but thats all. how bad are the bulls broken up at that time?

Congrats on the tag! Wife has an antelope tag this year, and we will be looking starting Aug. 15. If any of you know of an area for goats sound off please. We have spent collectively, nearly 7 weeks in this unit(s) finding elk, deer, and few goat. Early elk hunt is always good. Elk are in 2 general large herds at this time and roam the central and north eastern areas. There are many scattered bulls throught the group also. In '16 there was incredible rut activity on opening day and tapering off by the 10th of Nov. Please be well prepared, weather can kill your hunt, and you, here easily. The further east you go, the more remote you are. VERY limited cell service, mostly non existent. I would if hunting in a solo vehicle, rent a SatPhone. By opener of late season the entire eastern half of the unit group was inaccessible, period. Snowmachines maybe, but lacking that, even chains were no real help. Great unit group. Rare hunting opportunity. enjoy it all. I would buy a lion tag on the off chance you glass one up. Go high early and use your biggest glass. Make a plan and go kill something!
