(Repost from Mule Deer section)

Hello all,

I grew up not far from this unit (near Goldfield, NV) and was excited to draw it for my first mule deer hunt. I will have around 15 straight days to be out there and was wondering if anyone was familiar with the area and had any tips regarding areas to focus on and whether to spread out my 15 days over several of the different mountains or just pick one and stay on it.

Any other general tips would be appreciated as it's my first mule deer hunt. I am a fairly experienced backpacker and grew up climbing in nearby mountains in the area. If anyone else has a tag for the area or a nearby area I would willing to help out as a pack mule or taking photos/etc. while I'm up there.

Due to my job keeping me out of area most of the year, I'll only have two weeks or so right before the season start on Nov 5 to scout.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from you guys!

Get some maps before your scout like onx and e scout like crazy. I have never hunted that area but know it's a great tag and some nice deer have come from 213. There should be some helpful people on here that will help you out. Good luck with your hunt,

I actually wonder if anyone has ever taken a deer out of 213.....think you might have your units mixed up.

No problem! I already have the GMU maps for 211 and 212 and have been burning holes in my computer screen looking over google maps and any other info I can find.

Thanks for the responses

LAST EDITED ON Jun-02-18 AT 00:12AM (MST)[p]I was cruising the forums looking for info on Area 17 for archery later this year and realized I never posted the buck I got last year. I wound up shooting a larger fork buck. I decided to take him even though it was early because it was my first time hunting and I was by myself; I wasn't sure if I'd see anything else. Thanks for the help guys!

Hey, I'm coming up from eastern AZ to help my nephew from LV with his first hunt (youth, any mule deer, units 211-213, Aug 10 - Nov 30, 2018).

Thinking of concentrating on Palmetto and Magruder mountain areas. I've got maps and doing online research, but nothing beats word of mouth. It's just me and him and I've never hunted in NV. Would appreciate ANY tips for these areas (roads, tanks, good areas for glassing, where NOT to go, etc). thank you!
