Hello, anyone?
I'm new to the forum, and just like a broken record, need some help!!!
I'm a non res who drew this year, and just didn't have time to scout. I've gotten a lot of good info off the net, scoured google maps, land ownership, and have some good ideas (I think) on where to start. I'm heading out for opening day (Rifle tag) and was just wondering what to really expect? Quality, pressure, etc...
Anyway...
Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,

iluvrax

Seriously? Never been to the unit. No knowledge of the area. Heading out for opening day. You may just happen to kill the biggest buck in the unit by just driving around on the roads. It does happen that way sometimes.

Oh, thanks for the confidence buckhorn, I think?
And I probably didn't mention I've never hunted antelope before?
Anyway...
I know scouting is key! But good glass, and a good compadre, and knowing how to use them?, should help with the 6 days I allotted for this hunt?

Thank you Sallaberry!
PM coming soon...
I work a crazy schedule.
Your handle reminds me of a guy I use to work with in the oil business?
Looking forward to talking with you...
Thanks again!!!

The Bull Head hunt club has property out that way steer clear of it but plenty of good spots around there. I was out there calling coyotes seen some easy mid 70s off the road

Thanks!
I'm running onxmaps latest version of Nevada...
I'll look for it.
Thanks again for the heads up!!!

There is a lot of ground to the northeast of the Jacksons that holds good numbers. I don't know how many tags you are up against, and how crowded it will be, but there certainly are goats to choose from. I can't speak to the southern part of the unit as I haven't been there...

Thanks bullskin!
That's exactly where I planned on starting out. Again, I'm just curious about the competition? I think there's a total of 58 tags. 50 res, 8 non...

GONHUNTIN, your obviously in the know for that area?
Do you know how the hunting pressure is the first few days being it starts on a Tuesday?
Are most residents weekend warriors for this hunt?
Again, just trying to get a feel...
Thanks!

Copy that GONHUNTIN!
I guess I'm going to find out Tuesday...
I really wish I could of scouted.
But I also drew a late San Juan tag this year, and that's my main focus!
From what info I've found, 035 is/was one of the top units in Nevada...
Pretty pumped!!
Thanks again everyone for your help!!!
Hopefully next weekend there will be some pics attached to this thread?

I take opening day off if it's on a work day. I personally would get up and get to the top of the pass and glass at opening light. There is 2 roads to the top and the best vantage point. On the other side of the pass is a lake bed so mainly flat. You can see for miles and easily taken apart with optics

Hey GONHUNTIN,
I sent you a PM yesterday...
So these roads your talking about are in the area you mentioned in your last PM?
I've been looking that over and I guess you just have to be a little more careful of private land? But I'm running the latest version of onxmaps, so it shouldn't be an issue...
I am hunting opening morning, I should be out there by 3:00pm tomorrow! I'll be looking for a place to set up my rig... Not quite sure where that's going to be yet?
Thanks again!!!

Sorry GONHUNTIN, I was looking at a different PM... That as you know, wasnt from you?
I probably had you scratching your head for a minute!
Thanks again!!!

Nevada law is if private property isn't fenced in anything but barbed wire and unmarked it is legal to hunt. The only fenced area out tgere I recall is the hunt club.

I was sending you in the wrong direction, I apologize for that. Sand pass road I do believe will get hit hard, but a lot of country out tgere good luck

So, two days now...
I think we found one of the biggest bucks in the unit?
Tough!!!!
There not big by being stupid...
Tried to work him over a couple of miles!
Back at him tomorrow...
Thanks again everyone for all your help!!!
