LAST EDITED ON Sep-10-17 AT 01:56PM (MST)[p]After 13 days and a few close encounters I was finally able to seal the deal with a 51 yard shot when this buck stood up to change position. We were able to get my son Chris and grandson Bode up the mountain for a few happy pictures. Bode was pretty wound up after he hiked up the mountain. Fun Day!!!

GREAT BOW BUCK.........CONGRATS!!!!! JUST WONDERING WHAT THE DAILY TEMPERATURES WERE LIKE. THANKS....& I LIKE THAT BUCK...............YD.

Conditions were difficult all season with 94 to 97 degree temps. The wind refused to cooperate, either dead wind or wind changing direction. Last Friday we finally got a solid south wind, 75 degree high, made two successful stalks and thank goodness one of them worked out.

Attached is a spotting scope photo of the buck from last week. My son and I had the opportunity to stalk this buck on 4 different occasions. It was really cool being able to find the same buck day after day.

Good for you! Looks like fun. It's hard getting them with a bow. You did great.

Damn good job man. I'll be heading up to the rubies for rifle early hunt. Beet hunting up there for about 15 years on and off and family for a long time before that. I have never drawn a archery tag for the area but have taken quite a few nice looking deer with my rifle. Last year we hunted mid season and it was rough. Hardly saw any bucks and the weather didn't cooperate. Did you happen to see alot of deer while u were there? I see it will be in the 70's while I'm there so that should be interesting

My son and I did a little preseason scouting and found that the deer have been browsing on the wide open dead looking yellow grass hillsides. I am not sure why they are where they are but if I was going to give a 2017 pointer that's it. We did see one old heavy horned buck slip into a quakey patch early on. The Rubies have been very tough the last few years with older age deer being few and far between, but with that said there seems to be a few toads killed every season, Good Luck!!

Thanks everyone,
It was really a challenging season. The wind or lack of wind I should say kept blowing our stalks day after day. After four, three day weekends and not one shooting opportunity I almost threw in the towel. When I finally got a consistent wind it tipped the odds in my favor, thank goodness. Being ridiculously persistent always seems to pay off when archery hunting.
