Elk question

I have a cow tag that opens in 2 weeks, I scouted the unit 2 days ago and I had set 2 trail cameras too about 2 months ago. My cameras were set at a higher elevation on the mountain and I got nothing but bulls on the cameras. All the cow elk seem to be in the lower elevations on the alfalfa fields on the private land literally across the highway. (A herd of about 80-100 elk). The problem is I have yet to see cow elk on the mountain seems like only the bulls are on it. Any advice you guys can give me?

The 80 or so cows across the highway is a resident heard that spends the majority of their time in that field. The chance of catching them on public is slim. I had the archery tag and had no trouble getting into elk pretty much every day. Your right about the bulls being at higher elevations than the cows but the rut is kicking in so you shouldn't have any trouble locating elk once your hunt starts. So don't get discouraged, I can't give away any of my spots but I will tell you that most of the cows were in the foothills between 6-8500 feet but that may change once the bulls start chasing them. The best advice I can give you is just get in a good glassing spot and be patient. Not sure if that was much help. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Yea thanks for the help, the bulls and cows should be together at that time of the month so it will make it easier to locate the cows if the bulls start talking
