archery elk

With nevada changing alot of the season dates for archery elk to late august, I was curious if anyone has been on one of these hunts and how there hunt was. Seems a little early to be chasing bulls with a bow? Probably have to waterhole hunt? Anyone have any thoughts? I personally have invested alot of points in nevada elk to try and chase bugling bulls in september with archery tackle but now I might rethink it.

I hunted elk in late August in 2016 in units 105 and 109. This was a water hole type hunt for cows. I had never hunted elk that early. I saw a few, but was not able to seal the deal.

I made a mistake in not hunting some of the more open country I think, which is pretty limited in those units anyway.

That being said, I put in for a couple of those late August bull hunts on my application. I am more familiar with the area I put in for this year as I have had success in the past there for cows anyway.

My plan for an Archery bull hunt would be more glassing and spot and stalk. I struggle with patience in glassing, but am getting better. I am ready for the challenge.

Good luck.

I went with a buddy on an August bull hunt in jarbidge last year. Saw a ton of elk, it was tough to get it done though. Definately a water hole/wallow hunt.

That time of year I would think the bulls will still be in bachelor groups. unless you know something I dont.

Awesome. Congrats. I'm surprised that for all intents and purposes he was done growing.

It was a weird year up there last year, we were in a bachelor group that were all completely hard horned opening day.
