LAST EDITED ON May-28-18 AT 08:16AM (MST)[p]Anyone have and experience and knowledge of this area? Wife and I drew party tag for 151-156 early Mule deer, any legal weapon, Oct.5th-20th. There are only 225 tags but, I do not want to be on top of everyone. I have looked at NDOW suggested hunting areas and they seam easy access areas(where everyone will go). Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Jeremy B.

I am local to the area and have the muzzle loader tag.

15 is no different than any other area in that people go where the deer are. You can go quite some distance and not see much for deer, then find a mess of them.

The information sheet is mostly correct in general areas to start finding deer. You have to get out and scout to find other spots that hold deer away from crowds.

I have a place that I intend to hunt, but it is pretty isolated, doesn't hold a lot of deer, and has taken years to find. You might call it a "honey" hole. Will see how it turns out this year and see if I can keep my finger off the trigger and get one of the bucks that I know survived last hunting season.

Good luck.

Tough hunt for those not local, we found out. We hunted it in 2016. My dad had hunted it years before and where they hunted.....there are basically no deer anymore. We had to shift gears. Took us 4 days to find deer. Finally stumbled on to a little pocket of bucks and both got decent ones, but nothing to write home about and we worked hard to get them and get them out.
On the bright side, it seemed like hunters were gathered together in one area and we felt like we were the only hunters in the unit where we were. We never saw another hunter except when driving around looking at other areas. Our preseason scouting mostly eliminated areas so we we're still scouting when the season started. Living 14 hours drive away, we didn't have a lot of opportunities to scout.
Best of luck. Hope you find deer quicker than we did.
Shane

I hunted the same hunt in 13 and it took us a few days to find deer. Our second day in the area I shot a fork that had been shot in the jaw earlier in the day. We only saw 1 really good buck and someone else shot a decent four point there. I will pm you the coordinates early next week. They are on my work computer
