Hi Guys,

I drew a 13 early rifle tag this year and have never hunted this unit group. I have started scouting the south end and found some deer and one buck that could be really big. From what I've read, and found in my research, most of the deer summer in the northern part of the unit, not surprisingly. Just wondering what the migration pattern is for these northern herds of deer, when and how far they travel generally? Any help or information is appreciated!

Thanks

Good luck on your quest to find a good buck, Shon. You deserve it. Post pics after the season please.

Lots of chatter about how the deer migrate in 13. My personal experience is there are a bunch of deer there during the elk hunt after the late deer season. The best bucks are rutting during the elk hunt. From those observations, I would say it takes more than a foot of snow to get those deer moving and pretty unlikely you'll see that during the early hunt. I did have snow the night before opening day on an early hunt, about 4-5 inches that stuck for a day or two. Didn't seem to get the deer moving then either. I see more deer in and near the sagebrush/mahogany at 8,000-8,500 feet than in the highest elevations in 13.
