Unit 032

Hey all, first time posting. My son and I drew archery mule deer tags for unit 032. This will be our first archery hunt to NV. Pretty excited. I'm planning to make the trek over there this weekend to start some scouting. Any info from those familiar with the unit would be much appreciated. Just a rough idea on where to start looking. The biologist for that area wasn't available when I called but I did speak with the local game warden and she was quite nice but info was limited. We prefer the spot and stalk method for chasing the mulies. Thanks!

This one was from last year. Took an hour on the first morning. They will surprise you. Go high, get away from the roads about a mile and glass.

Sorry wrong pic. This one is right.both are from there though. Get your boy excited by glassing the fields at denio junction and Leonard Creek ranches. Always gets my nephew's going.

Find food water and cover, you will find deer. I have only coyote hunted the area and the only deer i have seen are on private

Thanks guys for the ideas. I did see some of the local bucks hanging around the hay pivots. I don't think they venture far. I know I wouldn't. I was hoping to find some bucks down in the desert foothills that might be more stalkable. It appears most of the deer on public this time of year will be up higher in the Pine Forest range. I did speak with the biologist for that area that told me as much as well. We will get the glass out and feet in the dirt and see what we turn up.
Thx!

If Onion and Blue Lake is in your area for archery that's where I would go. You will run into guys up there camped on Onion but I have chased some nice Bucks just above Blue Lakes several times. A mile hike up from the trailhead, in the rocks, looking down on the lake. Tough hike but worth it. Plan all day or pup tent it.

Yes, both those lakes are in the unit. Some wilderness up there that keeps the vehicles away. Knott Creek lake up there as well. I made it up to the unit for the first time last weekend. That Pine Forest range is pretty formidable. I was surprised about the ruggedness of some of it. Google earth and maps don't do it justice. You ever see many deer down lower away from roads?

Leonard creek ranch hayfields are all in 034 and those bucks don't leave those fields by much......they live in that hay....
