As luck (good luck) would have it I pulled an early rifle season Unit 6 deer tag. I've not been in that area before but I'm planning on a couple 3 day scouting trips before the season opens. I'll go next week and then again mid-September. I'm excited to learn more about the area and to hunt deer in Nevada!
As the Region is huge I'm trying to trim down the areas that I'll explore and then try to focus on 2-3 of them. So far the general areas that appeal to me are:
- Southern end of the Independence Mtn range around Lone Mountain and Fish Creek Mountain
- Bull Run Mountains around Pennsylvania Hill and Maggie Summit
- Merritt Mountain and Hicks Mountain
- The Mahoganies Mountains
- BLM property west of Chicken Creek Summitt
- West of Wildhorse Reservoir (Badger and Beaver creek drainages)
I'm sure there are a multitude of other areas but these are some I might start with. Any thoughts on where you'd recommend I try and any reasons why? Not looking for specifics just ideas on where to scout.
Thanks for any info. If you want, you can PM me.
I'd be willing to share info on Southeast Idaho if you have any questions.
