At Uptown Market for processing

Boned Twice by Rotten Meat Dept. Customer Service--Don't Let it Happen to You!

I will never, ever, spend another dime here, nor will my friends, and nor should you or anyone else.
I dropped off an antelope for processing on Tuesday with the understanding from the dept mgr it would be ready to pick up on Friday morning.
On Friday, about 945, on my way out of town I went to pick it up.
Miguel, the butcher, who was out on the grocery store floor sprucing up the meat display, was unaware he had my antelope in the locker and I followed him to the cooler--there it lay, on a rack in the game bags I brought it in...not hung up, just in a pile.
He again said he hadn't known about it, that his manager hadn't told him. He said maybe he could get to it in the afternoon.
I told him I was headed out of town, couldn't wait, and would take it with me.
"I'm going to have to charge you a storage fee."
"You're kidding, right? You don't do what you said you were going to do and now you're going to charge me for not doing it?"
So Miguel calls his manager who says yep, charge him $5/day "hanging fee."
If I was my younger self i would have really gone off, but....
So they collected $15 from me but will loose many, many times that in lost business as I make good on my vow to Miguel that I would share my experience with everyone.

Don't Get Boned by Uptown Market

I had an interesting experience with Uptown's meat department several years ago. I used to really like their chorizo and was heading out of town on a deer hunt and swung by to grab some before the hunt. I bought 2 packages of link chorizo that they make in house. It was in those styrofoam trays and sealed in cellophane. When I left the store the Chorizo went straight into a cooler with block ice and didn't come out for about 4 days until I decided to make some for lunch. When I grabbed one of the packages I was shocked to see hundreds of maggots had burst out of one of the links and were squirming around inside the unbroken cellophane. I then looked at the other package and all the chorizo links appeared fine. I opened up the packaging and cut into each chorizo(I wasn't about to eat them at this point). When I did, 2 of the links had healthy maggot populations thriving inside the links. I'm all for protein but this was a bit much. A few days later, after the hunt I went back to Uptown to try to recoup my money and was basically told "tough luck." I get that I had no way to prove that the maggots were there when I purchased the meat but seeing as they are a small business I thought they'd do the right thing, I never went back after that.
