Hi There! Two new Nevada hunters here with a antlered mule deer tag for Area 10. We had planned to go to Lamoille/Ruby Mountains, but with all the fires, we're thinking otherwise. Any other recommendations on good spots to go? We can camp/hike, but would love to be able to take our side by side around. Thanks!

I don't know much about the fires and there locations but there is plenty of areas to hunt. Unit 101 and 102 are the prime areas to hunt and most have access points to get you back into BLM. Get the BLM map and you'll see there locations. I mainly hunted the east side of the Ruby's. Have hunted Lamoille years ago but the hike was tremendous. If I remember, it took my son and I 4- 5 hours backpack in and camp. Saw plenty of deer. The Ruby's are not a sit in the truck unit and do a drive by and get lucky. If you like to hike try Secret Pass 101 or 102 side. Soldier Creek west side of 102. The road that goes between 102 and 103. I use to hunt Angel Lake (north side)years back and had great success but I referred someone on here to that area because the father was older and the trail was decent and they didn't have any success. Gave my allot of BS for it. There is lots of places to go. The Ruby's are not a walk in the park unless your in great shape. Truth be said, the good bucks are on top of the ridges. The more prepared you are the better. If you have the late hunt the bucks will be just starting to get into the rut mode. If you don't like to hike pray for lots of snow. That will be bring them down a little. From the mid 90's to about 2010 the deer hunting in the Ruby's was outstanding. Since then they increased the tags way too much. Plus went to 3 seasons from 2. I believe the deer quantity is not what it was. The drought out here is rough. Get the BLM Map it will assist you tremendously.

Had the ML tag 8 or 9 years ago and we hunted around Angel Lake. We were unsuccessful but had 4 days of great scenery. Several lakes to hike in to. Camped at Angel Creek campground down the hill a ways and that was nice. If I could give one piece of advice to anyone hunting 10 it would be to hunt higher than you think you need to. If I could do it again, I'd go up to Angel lake and get into the higher stuff from there and hunt to the west. Good luck!
If you go into the archives, you can probably find my post.
