Just curious about the plans for this year for CWD along the Alberta-Sasketchewan border. The hammering those deer took last year sure generated some controversy. Are the provicincial governemnts planning to do more of the same this year?

I heard that some landowners were not allowing them on the private lands and were trying to protect the deer.

Any comments or updates will be appreciated.

Cam,

That literally makes me sick. I hope some folks are raising a ruckus and trying to stop the slaughter. Colorado tried to eradicate the deer in the CWD areas and had no success, and I think Wisconsin also tried it. What a waste of a resource.

I had heard that this was happening, but never thought it was that bad. Too bad they just wasted the meat as well. Just amazing, and not in a good way.

Thanks for the post. My fears were confirmed.

Looking forward to some more of your velvet pics pretty soon - to be followed by a big muley with an arrow hole through his ribs.

I have hunted s.e. alberta many times in the last 10 yrs. and have recently seen the effects of the shooting spree the bios in that area have committed. I personally cannot see how killing all of the alberta deer along the saskatchewan border is going to eliminate the alberta cwd problem. This is just going to create a vacuum by replacing alberta deer with infected sask deer. Soon these zones will be inhabited with migratory sask deer thus spreading more cwd throughout southern ab. Sask needs to address the problem first or all of these other efforts are futile.

Here's a little up date on what's going in Alberta right now.
There is a Bill that's past the second reading in Legislature to
lump game farms under Agriculture's control and reclassify wild game as domestic livestock. Flying in the face of some of the countries leading wildlife scientists, pathologists, parasitologists, public health officers and resource economists.
Yes CWD is spreading west from the Alberta / Saskatchewan border
with more testing positive every year. A small group of very concerned sportsman from southern Alberta have started a campaign
to bring an awareness to Albertans. Here's a link to a video they just loaded onto youtube and a link to thier web site.
