Archery Muleys

Hey Guys, First off Alberta Rocks! I live to the south of you guys in MT and after my archery mule deer hunt in 07' I might officially be addicted to hunting Alberta. There was a pretty good die off in the Grande Prairie a last winter and the outfitter kept saying the numbers were down. Still saw a couple whoppers and ended up arrowing a 180" I am seeing that this past winter was even worse up there, not looking good for the deer! So, I am heading to SE Alberta to try my luck in the plains for an early season archery mule deer hunt. What do you guys know about the area? My research shows there are some monsters roaming around those parts.

Fatrack,

I've hunted Alberta three of the past 4 years and I'm going back to the Peace River country again next month. I bow hunted near Medicine Hat a couple of years ago. There are some whopper bucks there. I went with an outfitter that turned out to be far less than forthright. He had some TV guys coming the day after my hunt was done, so he had me hunt public lands and some fringe country. I'm sure he was saving his best deer for the TV show. I saw some huge deer, but not anywhere I could hunt. The best deer I saw was 170 or so and I never took a shot.

But the bucks are there and if you go with the right person, you could arrow a stud.

Good hunting.

Hi,
I hunt Alberta every few years and hunt with an outfitter named Jack Franklin. He owns Lost Creek Outfitters. His brother owns Silver Sage outfitters. I have taken 3 bucks between 170 and 195 with my bow and a antelope that scored 78 1/4.

Great area to bow hunt and lots of animals. Check out Jack and he will put you on some great areas.

Good lcuk and have fun
