COYOTE HUNTING

I was in carrot river hunting with red willow outfitters for bear. My question is why dont people hunt coyotes there like us predator addicted fools in the states. Acording to larry my outfitter theres no intrest in coyoyes up there and there was dogs everywhere and they were clueless.

I hunted whitetails in Saskatchewan last year and we weren't allowed to shoot the coyotes. I think it had something to do with the furbearing animal rules. The locals got to trap them, wolves and lynx but we could only shoot a whitetail. The rules for private land and Crown land may have been different.

Some of the guys that had hunted there several years said it hadn't always been that way, they used to shoot them. There was plenty of them there, saw them every day.

Your outfitter may not have had interest in coyotes but there are lots of guys up here who predator hunt. There are more and more guys doing it all the time. Some areas it is getting tougher to call them in due to too many guys out trying. Most of the coyote hunting will be done in December through February once the big game seasons are over, that is likely why the coyotes you were seeing were not real spooky, not much calling had been done yet.
