Hi Guys I've posted this up in the Mule Deer section also and thought it might be a good idea to post it here also.
A buddy and I are planning on going down to hunt Mule Deer and Coues. We've been talking to a guy by the name of Carlos Hermosillo he owns Big game Outfitters in Mexico. Can you give me any information on him and his outfit. We both would like trophie type animals.
Thanks Packer

Brian

Not as of yet, just waiting to get some information from a few that know of him.

Dave,
I'm sure that Carlos is good but if I had the money and doing what you want to do I would try hooking up with Amigo's Guides & Outfitters.

I know a few hunters that use him and is highly recommended.

I would be quite carefull with Mr. Hermosillo!!! Check all the info you want to know and then some! Nayo is very good guy but very expensive and most of his good places are booked!

packerhorse,
See the reply I just left for you in the Mule deer section of MM.
I've hunted in Sonora for 11 years in a row. The worst hunt was with Carlos Hermosillo, and I could 'never' recommend him to anyone under any condition. My other hunts in Sonora were excellent, plenty of deer, great experiences, etc.
Also be sure you inquire about fair-chase v high fence hunts in Sonora, since the high fence type hunt is now a reality there on some ranches. Whatever your choice, just be sure ahead of time.
I didn't mention this in my reply to the Mule deer section, but my experience with Carlos Hermosillo was very similar to the reply that Romulus gave - except even after 11 years, I'm more upset then Romulus - the experience with CH was just so bad.
Also, the three US men I hunted with (two from CA, and one from OR) also agree about how terrible CH is.
Other then experiencing the MX culture and meeting wonderful MX people (Carlos Hermosillo is the exception) the only good thing that happened on that hunt was that four strangers came together under atrocious circumstances to become good friends - brought together by our mutual anger and distrust by CH.
Feel free to PM me if you'd like recommendations for good outfitters in Sonora.

Westoakland, I tried my best to lay out the facts of the hunt in a somewhat unbiased manner. When I reflect on the hunt I do get fired up over how our hunt turned out to be versus what we thought we were getting. However since it might be my only trip to Mexico due to what I feel is an overpriced market I try and focus on the things about the hunt I enjoyed. I also dont have any other mexican hunts to compare it to so I dont know how bad it was in comparison to what it could have been. I did go several years after you and it seems most of his practices have not changed and like you I did obtain a good friend who was hunting in his camp the same time as me. I enjoyed reading your post and totally agree with you in not recommending CH. I would not go with him again for free.
