So today I was Fired at work in a way that was total chicken S##t I feel like it was pre-planned. I believe it was wrongful and illegal in the manner I was fired. Is anyone on here a Legal expert or know someone that may be. Also I live in Utah if that helps. I'll be more than happy to discuss the details I am really considering getting an attorney with the way it was handled. Any advise would be appreciated.

hmmmmm....every time I've fired someone it was preplanned...and they all thought it was chickens##t.

I probably won't be much help....

Homer I've never seen someone fired in such a way. But thanks man glad you could kick me as well. I was hoping for some help and i've never been fired and all my past bosses have thought highly of me in the workplace I've had a great employment history.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-22-17 AT 11:38PM (MST)[p]As an employer let me just say, you will have no case. Utah is a hire/fire at will state. Maybe your boss didn't like your hairstyle...that's all it takes.

Can you quit your job at any time? Yes. Then unless you had an employment contract your boss can fire you at any time. Most companies will give a verbal, then a written, but should the violation occur again in 90 days they will terminate you. But there is no law stating a company has to do that.

So yeah, go find another job or spend some money and have an attorney tell you the same thing. I would file for unemployment and force your former employer to state in writing why you were terminated, Manny can tell you how to go about filing.

Thanks FTW. I may have another job lined up I'll know by tuesday and It is my goal to avoid unemployment as much as possible.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-23-17 AT 06:36AM (MST)[p]I've never been fired either. I know a few that have, and they are doing better than they were before. Don't put too much weight on being fired. I'm sure it's embarrassing but what you do next will make or break you going forward. The people I notice that do well are the ones that don't have the chip on their shoulder from their last job. I've been a part of a few interviews and when the topic of the reason they left their last job comes up, the chip on the shoulder shows itself and it's over for them. It's hard to listen to a victim. Good luck to you.

Turn it into the best thing that happened to you.

In today's hostile world you may have been terminated because you are....a conservative. I've seenit happen. Good luck

LAST EDITED ON Jun-23-17 AT 12:42PM (MST)[p]It's always darkest just before the dawn.

One of my customers owns the local GM dealership. He has been known to have an employee sent to the local watering hole where he fires them just so his daytime drinking buddy's can have a laugh. I asked him once if he has ever considered that one of them would go out to their vehicle and come back in with a weapon, he just shrugged his shoulders.

Sometimes in business you just have to bite your tongue to keep from saying what you really think.

I assume you are a straight, white male, aged less than 65. Not part of a protected class. Take the other job and move on

There are very rare exceptions. :)

The only time I ever got fired was the time I got into an argument with my supervisor. I walked off the job, which shut down the sawmill and sent everybody else home for the day. As I was leaving my supervisor said I was fired. I said "whatever"

I sat home for 3 days and the mill owner called and said to come to his office asap. I went in and confronted the supervisor in front of the owner. I told the owner if that's the way he wants to run his mill I don't want to work here anyway. The owner told me to get back to work and he even paid me for the 3 days I was home. He kept the supervisor too but we all got along after that.

Well my advice isn't legal advice. I have worked for 5 different companies in my life. It might sound strange to some but i have always thought of my employment in a way that if there were a reason on either side of the equation I didn't like or went against MY wishes or beliefs I moved on.
So my question to you is if your boss would treat you in a way that offended you why would you want to work for the jackwagon anyway. Tell him to kiss your as s, and move on, and feel good about it. This might sound strange, but it has worked for me from 1984 to date. Good luck, and another piece of advice, you need to enjoy what you do, and feel that your work accomplished something at the end of the day.. if you knew I was a tinner man would that advice sound dumb.lol.

If you came here for legal advice...you're in real trouble...my advice is better go sign up for unemployment and look for another job....

LAST EDITED ON Jun-24-17 AT 11:04AM (MST)[p]Now if you would of asked how to sign up for unemployment and live off it for years foreskin would of been the expert.

When I was young, I worked in a door shop. We put together pre-hung door units. There was a boss that got off on firing people. One thing he would do is collect applications where ever we went to lunch. When he fired someone, he handed them the applications already filled out, they just needed to sign them. It was a bunch of applications to Taco Bell and Wendy's and places like that. It was a cheap insult that also told them he was helping them out.

The worst firing I heard about was a Project Manager/Estimator/Superintendent. He took care of about half of the operations of this company. He was with it for 16 years, and side by side with the owner for 10 years before that. One day, the owner said, "I need you to go look at a job with me". They ended up taking the owners truck, and he left his with the mechanic along with its keys. They drive across town and stop at a gas station to get a coke. When they get out, the owner tells him that he's done working for him and he can find his way home and just left him there.

I remember another firing at the door shop where I worked.

I had a friend and roommate that was a little slow. He was a nice guy and a hell of a lot of fun, but he had learning disabilities. He worked at the door shop with me, but as a driver. The owner was a real kind person, just a real good human being. He tolerated a lot of mistakes. My friend would often screw up deliveries and damage products. The owner had to fire him when he used the Tommy Lift on the truck to load up some dirt from a job site. He lowered it and backed right into a pile. It of course bent it and jammed it up real good. I remember at the end of the day going into the office and the owner was in there. He said he really tried to work with him, but couldn't anymore. He said he felt bad because he has experience with retarded people, his daughter he told me has learning or developmental disabilities. He used the word retarded. I was always told that word is offensive and never used it. It wasn't offensive to a 63 year old man in 1998, that was the word that's used to describe disabilities. I felt bad too, because when he said retarded when talking about his daughter I laughed real hard. If anyone was there and didn't know either one of us, they would think I was a real horse's Ass. I apologized to him and explained how I was raised to think about that word.
