NRA and bump-stocks

The National Rifle Association, in its first statement on the Las Vegas shooting and in a rare break from its traditional opposition to gun-related regulations, called Thursday for a federal review of so-called bump stocks and suggested new rules might be needed for the device apparently used by the shooter in Sunday?s massacre.

?The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations,? the NRA said in a written statement.

Bump stocks can be used to effectively convert semi-automatic rifles to fire so rapidly as to simulate an automatic weapon. The devices were found on guns used by Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock, who killed 59 and injured hundreds Sunday night.

The Obama administration?s ATF gave its seal of approval to selling the devices in 2010 after concluding that they did not violate federal law. On Thursday, the NRA called on the ATF to review that assessment.

?In Las Vegas, reports indicate that certain devices were used to modify the firearms involved,? the NRA said. ?Despite the fact that the Obama administration approved the sale of bump fire stocks on at least two occasions, the National Rifle Association is calling on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law.?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-05-17 AT 02:11PM (MST)[p]How can my kids protect themselves from tyranny if even the NRA knows there isn't a valid reason for a bump stock? DW said they would be put in bondage if they could only buy semi auto AR's and not be able to convert them.

Seems weird that slope isn't slippery on these bump stocks but it is on requiring a limit on magazine capacity.

Wonder how Brietbart will play this one when they find about the NRA?

The NRA knows it has two choices, start making concessions or lose it all.

They'll give up more than this.

Nemont, let's face it, you would be happy if the NRA ceased to exist.

As for that slippery slope you like to accuse the NRA about. During Bill Clinton's administration, his A.G. Janet Reno pushed the ATF into demanding all copies of the 4473 ATF forms would be submitted to the ATF when any licensed firearms dealer went out of business as a FFL Dealer. Janet Reno was a liberal anti gun person and like Feinstein would be ok with gun confiscation.

Of course the NRA objected to this on the grounds the ATF was going to compile a gun registration list from those 4473 forms.

The ATF director testified before Congress that the NRA was over reacting with their conclusion and that the ATF would check the forms for proper sales and destroy them within 30 days after verifying the sales met ATF requirements.

Was the NRA overreacting about the ATF was going to compile a registration list?

Nemont quit reading that Obama health care manuel and try to think on your own,it will be hard but you will come around.

264,

Care to point which "manuel" you are talking about? Just because I can read and understand what I read shouldn't make you jealous of me. Some day you may learn to read too.

RELH,

I don't worship at the altar of the NRA like you do so I really don't care if they go away or keep going. They can move forward on your money, they need slow witted guys to keep coughing up money because you know a total gun ban is just around corner and going to happen any day. I looked at some of their stuff from 1987 and it said exactly the same thing it says today. Only difference is they have added 500 permanent staff and built a Taj Mahal HQ's building.

Their rhetoric has NEVER been close to right. I don't expect you to understand or even care seeing as you voted for Trump and defend that vote as being a great thing for America. I supported neither candidate because they were both a pile of dung. You should at some point check your facts on what the NRA really does and what it will cost gun owners in the future.

Nemont

LAST EDITED ON Oct-05-17 AT 05:47PM (MST)[p]Nemont I asked you if the NRA overreacted with their "slippery slope" thinking the ATF was compiling a registration list of firearms from the 4473 forms. We all know that Clinton and Reno were anti gun and for eventual confiscation of firearms at that time.

Funny you should be against the NRA for building a Taj Mahal headquarter and having such a large staff when you work for insurance companies that have done that and exceeded that by a far margin. Are you a hypocrite or a true conservative?

District of Columbia officials announced Thursday they will not appeal a federal court ruling that struck down parts of the city?s restrictive gun laws, a move that paves the way for more gun owners to obtain concealed carry permits.

In June, a federal appeals court ruled against a D.C. law that requires people to have a ?good reason to fear injury? in order to carry a handgun, saying it infringes on residents' Second Amendment rights. Because of the stringent requirement, only about 120 people currently have a permit to carry a concealed handgun in the city.

The city?s attorney general said the decision not to appeal the ruling was a strategic one. He worries if the city were to appeal to the Supreme Court and lose, it would affect similar gun regulations elsewhere including in Maryland, New Jersey and New York.

"I continue to believe the District's 'good reason' requirement is a common-sense, and constitutional, gun regulation,? District of Columbia Attorney General Karl A. Racine said in a statement. ?However, we must reckon with the fact that an adverse decision by the Supreme Court could have wide-ranging negative effects not just on District residents, but on the country as a whole."

The attorney general acknowledged receiving several phone calls from elected and unelected officials in other jurisdictions worried about the effect of such a ruling against the city. But Racine said the decision was ultimately made in his city's best interest.

The announcement comes as gun control is being discussed by politicians in the wake of the shooting massacre in Las Vegas, where 59 people were killed and more than 500 injured on Sunday.

____________________________________________________________

If I recall right, The NRA was involved in bringing to court the above case against the city of D.C. that was not allowing the average honest citizen the right to protect themselves and family by carrying a concealed firearm in public. Nemont was not there to protect the rights of those fellow citizens nor was his money there to help with correcting the violation of citizen's rights under our Constitution.
yet Nemont will tell us that we should not support the NRA and are fools to do so. Nemont is riding our coattails on his firearm rights and being a hypocrite on top of it.

RELH

I know it is hard to understand the role of a broker nut fyi I am not employed by any insurance company. In addition insurance companies are for profit entities. The NRA is a not for profit organization. So you are telling me the best use of a not for profit is that taj mahal HQ?

I also said you can support the NRA all day just don't pretend they speak for all gun owners. They speak for 3% of us but we all deal with their scorched earth policy.

I guess one court case means the NRA is infallible and you will send money when they wave the bloody next time too, right?

Wayne counts on the slow to learn to keep shovel cash at a not for profit. Too bad you don look at the 990 and see how few of your dollars make it into the fight. The are less efficient than the march of dimes.

Nemont

Nemont you saying that you do not work directly for the insurance companies, is like the thug who breaks arms says he does not work for the loan shark that lent the money to the guy whose arms were broken. Give us a break.

You still did not answer my question, was the NRA citing the slippery slope falsely against the ATF in the above incident. I would like to know what you have to say on it.

Also butthead, the NRA has been involved in a lot more cases being filed in courts to protect our gun rights. You will find that out when enough liberals from CA. move to your state and start their anti gun push with the liberal politicians they will elect in your state.
Your local gun groups will be seeking help from the NRA and their expertise in fighting cases in court. One reason the CA. pistol & rifle assc. joined forces with them.

You a dumber than I thought. Be specific as to why a not for profit like NRA should be proud of how few donor dollars make out of Ole Wayne?s hands?

Also I know you are retarded about insurance but I don't get a pay check from any of them and I'm fact my largest book of business is consulting work where the client agrees to pay me to shop their plan net of commissions. I doubt you understand how that process works.
Yes the NRA is a paranoid scare tactic machine.

20 trillion didn't happen overnight, it's the one you pound on. Complete gun control won't happen overnight either. It's how you boil a frog. Just a couple degrees at a time.

So are you serious about either issue?

Show me the model that says we cut taxes to pay off the debt. No a dime of spending is proposed to be cut.

Show me how we need bump stocks and tell me why our soldiers and Marines very rarely need full automatic. The M16A2 didn't even have full auto it has semi auto or a 3 round burst option.

So are you interested in solving problems or worrying about inches?

Nemont

LAST EDITED ON Oct-05-17 AT 09:17PM (MST)[p]Absolutely interested in fixin both. We both know how to fix the debt, some tax cuts to stimulate things and stop spending more than we take in, designate 10% they take in to go to the principal of our debt, make the interest payment and what's left is what we have to work with. It's a big ##### sammich and only gettin bigger, at some point we're all gonna need to take a bite. It ain't gonna taste good. We can reduce some of the gun violence by allowing prescribed meds to be recognized during the background check. Fuk hippa! Yer on anti phsycotics you don't get a gun. Yer on anti depressants you don't get a gun. We start institutionalizing the mentally disturbed. Look at the crazy eyes of the last half dozen nutjobs, Ray Charles could see they shouldnt have been trusted. This isn't a gun issue, it's a people issue. Now how bout instead of poo pooin my ideas, try given us your suggestions.

Well lets get to that slippery slope Nemont likes to talk about concerning doom and gloom NRA scare tactics.

When the ATF was pressured by Janet Reno and Clinton to change their regulations requiring all FFL dealers to submit their 4473 forms and record purchasing log if they go out of business or give up their FFL license.

The NRA pressured Congress not to allow them to do that as they were trying to compile a firearm registration file on all gun owners by recording those 4473 forms into a central data base. Prior to this change, FFL dealers were not required to submit their 4473 forms if they ceased business.

Congress held a hearing and during that hearing the Director of the ATF testified that the NRA was wrong on their accusations and that they only wanted the forms to review to determine if all sales were done complying with ATF rules. He further testified that upon doing that the forms would be destroyed within 30 days and no data base would be complied of the gun owners.

Well that Director flat out lied to Congress and I have the proof in a case file for burglary that I investigated concerning the theft of numerous expensive firearms.

This burglary took place about 3 years after that ATF director lied to congress. My victim lost about 20 thousand dollars worth of guns in a burglary at his business where he kept his large gun safe. The burglars used bolt cutters and pry bar to gain entry to his closed warehouse at night.
They used the victim's own forklift to lift up his gun safe and load it onto their pickup and made their getaway.
The victim could not supply me with a list of his guns with serial numbers, the list was in the stolen safe, where I could enter the firearms into the NCIC computer as stolen firearms.
What he did tell me that the last 3-4 guns he had purchased was done at a local sporting goods store that had went out of business 2 years prior to his burglary. So I could not go to that dealer and review his 4473 forms for the information I needed to enter the guns as stolen guns nation wide in the NCIC computer.

Well I never have fully trusted ATF and I decided to make a call to their office in Washington D.C. and see if I could obtain the information I needed for my investigation.
I ended up talking to a woman in the records division, first name of Betty Lou, and having a very sweet Southern accent. She should be retired by now.
I identified myself and my agency and explained my problem concerning the investigation. She asked for the full name of the victim, his date of birth, and his given address when he made the purchase of the firearms from the out of business FFL dealer. She then advised me that she would fax copies of the 4473 forms to my agency fax number with attention to me. Two hours later I had copies of three 4473 forms in the victims name and giving me the information I needed concerning make, model, serial number of the firearms so I could enter them as stolen firearms.

The fact I got the actual copies of the 4473 forms in such a short time span tells me that they were on file in a computer and the ATF employee only had to punch in the persons name and DOB to bring up the copies of the 4473 form.
Gee! who would think that anti gun politicians would even dare to lie to Congress and compile that information in the event they get to send their jack booted storm troopers to your residence to seize your guns if confiscation became the law of the land.

Nemont and Dude will have their spin on this, pay them no attention as they are deaf, dumb and blind and have big ego's believing they know it all. I got where I just chuckle at their ignorant attitude and take anything they say with a grain of salt.

How effective would registration be anyway old timer? nobody on earth knows where at least half of my guns are. they've never been registered to me. good luck.

Just like every other attempt to make things illegal. The democrats just sold more slide fire stocks than anyone could have imagined. They are now up to $350 per stock if you can find one. Maybe a $150 item. There will be tens of thousands of them in people's hands before they are made illegal. Best gun salesmen in the world are democrats and Obama got the sales master award. None of this BS will ever stop a madman from committing these acts. He had explosives and trucks available so many ways to do mass executions. Pissing in the wind.

It is almost like the NRA needs a foil to fleece the dim witted. Gun sales flourish when there is a democrat in the White House and the NRA makes bank. One wonders how much cheering goes on inside the inner sanctum of the NRA when a Democrat gets elected.

If one really wants to see how the NRA operates go look at what is spends on mailings, solicitations and fund raising. Those costs exceed their lobbying budget by a factor of 100. The NRA is a money making scheme wrapped in the cover of a not for profit wrapped in the cover of protecting the 2nd Amendment. Ask Ole Wayne, he has $6 million reasons a year to thank you for your money.

It is interesting that it's easier to buy an assult weapon than ammonium nitrate. in fact it's not always available because the fertilizer stores don't want the liability.

maybe the fertilizer companies need to hire the NRA to put congress's balls in a money clip for them.

There's an old saying that goes "we create what we fear". It means that if you fear something, you sometimes act irrationally and actually set yourself up to make things worse.

The progressive liberals do exactly that when it comes to guns. They panic and start ranting about gun control, and so that worries the rest of the people, so they go out and buy every gun and all the ammo they can find.

They just created what they fear....LOL!

I dont expect you to get it at any point. You're an idiot of the first order.

How this I got paid to provide expert testimony last week as well. Are you going to whine about that?

Why do you hate the free market all while sucking up Medicare and social security.

Dude I suspect the NRA wants the bump stocks to be treated the same as a legal full automatic machine gun. You have to apply for the license and pay 200 bucks to the feds after a extensive background check. You are required to maintain the firearm in a safe manner to prevent theft.
The states have the right to ban the full auto in their state even if the buyer is capable of meeting the federal standards.
For your information, the last I heard, no legally licensed full auto machine gun has ever been used in a crime.
Try again on your liberal slanted take of things.

RELH

The NRA has decided it will hold to it's no compromise - no common sense stance to the death. which can't come any too soon.

A bump-stock is something a 4th grader could make. banning sales is a starting point but banning their installation is the only law that makes any sense.

Of course you could stop selling batchits black rifles and 100 round drums. but then you run into that common sense thing again.

Let the bodies pile up and we'll get back to this later. hopefully much later.
