A California city is launching the first US experiment in basic income ? and residents will get $6,000 a year

Stockton, California is expected to become the first US city to launch an experiment in universal basic income, a system of wealth distribution in which people receive a set amount of money just for being alive.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-29-17 AT 02:20PM (MST)[p]Mayor Tubbs is the best thing that has happened to Stockton in a half a century. Youngest Mayor of a city of 100,000 and the first black Mayor of Stockton. Tubbs is a true native and his election was one of the bright spots on the city level.

Stockton for all intents and purposes should be as Techy as S.F. or San Jose. After all it is a west coast port city with central access to the state.

After years on the sidelines commercial investors are now joined with the city to redevelopment downtown. Stockton is about to turn, crime as a whole is down, Tubbs could very well make Stockton a bright spot on the map.

Tubbs recently got Amazon to invest in a 600K sq. ft. facility. This guy is involved, he's accepted within the community and he is bringing in companies/jobs. Like E. Palo Alto, E. San Jose, Stockton is prime for investment.

Why did you move?

FTW Stockton, CA. is rated #8 of the ten most dangerous cities in the U.S. Their gang problem is one of the worse in CA. Give them time and the liberal politicians will use that money to pay off gang bangers not to use their guns to kill each other.
If Stockton is so great, why don't you pack up your gear and move there. Very easy for you to say that Stockton is nothing but a bed of roses when you are in Idaho. I am still waiting for the answer as why you moved from CA. to Idaho since you feel that Ca. was such a great place being run by liberal Democrats for several decades.

I don't think it's tax payer money they are using according to the article. Some foundation made up of rich people. It's their money and they can throw it away if they want.

It just seems dangerous to me. It sets up an entitlement mentality. It's kind of like planting the first wolves in YNP. Remember that? Now they're in California.

If you need more money to get ahead, earn it. That's why they invented student loans and schools.
