The Senate & The tax bill

LAST EDITED ON Nov-20-17 AT 03:15PM (MST)[p]The only thing they can all seem to agree on is raising the debt is now a good thing.

This is a tax hike for me plain and simple. I talked to my accountant to see if I was missing something and he confirmed it. he said many of his clients will see a tax hike if the bill passed as written. I bet 90% of them are Trump voters so I'd like to see the look on their face when they get this egg broke in their azz.

If it passes this bill will do for republicans what Obamacare did for the dems . if not worse. brilliant.

Forbes isn't impressed either.

Gee! isn't that the same policy that Democrats have been supporting for years, tax the rich and give to the poor.

RELH

No. it's more like tax the poor and give to the rich. if you want to run the debt up on your grand kids fine by me I say screw them too. but it really pizzes me off to run the debt up AND get a tax hike at the same time. it's insane.

Have you figured out the loss of your SALT isn't going to be covered by the 3% rate cut? or have you been instructed to not go there ?

Stay Thirsty My Friends

Wait a minute cry baby. How many times have you bragged about your wealth on this forum. Even bragged about increasing your wealth after receiving your inherence from your father.
Now since you are one of the rich guys, by your own admission, how can the tax bill be one that will tax the poor to give to the rich when you are one of the chumps that will be paying more tax???????

RELH

What is rich? according to house republicans up to 450k a year is middle class. so I'm in the middle class .

When my dad died the estate tax exemption was 675k , so we had to play a bunch of LEGAL games to avoid taxes. today that limit is 5.5 million or 11 million per married couple before the games begin. poor folks, what if someone gives you 11 million tax free and you're too dumb to hide more ? that's just not enough is it ? so your heroes are going to double that number now and eliminate it altogether before the bill expires. now that's looking out for the little guy huh?

The estate tax came about over 100 years ago to keep a few families from owning the nation. but the republican plan of the rich get richer and the poor get poorer has been obstructed too long by such laws. things had to change to help the middle class. wait... WTF ?

Even lower middle class residents of CA and many other states are going to take it in the azz. the loss of SALT will not be offset by the 3% cut do the math yourself. why do you think blue state republicans like Peter King are calling bullchit on this bill ? do the math ,if you dare.

You got to be one of the 51% club,"I want it free."

Oh , that must be why I've ALWAYS said we have to slow the debt. I said it with Obama as well , but when you're trying to save the economy you have an excuse don't you think ? I've said for years we should be paying more taxes not less , and I hate taxes as much as anyone. . it would seem I hate debt more than most of you freeloaders though doesn't it.

What is the excuse today? to low of unemployment? too high of stock market ? why do we need to run the debt up today ? this should be good do your best.

I take that as a no on my bet then.

I suppose the state tv network has instructed you not to look to the tax hike plan , just accept dear leader's infinite wisdom and dedication to his minions will benefit you. . sorry if I cause you stress with these questions, but I'm not drinking the Kool-Aid.

Too many people are not on the Kool-Aid I'm afraid, about 2/3 of the people as a matter of fact. ask the dems what happens when you push through unpopular legislation. we better all be living large and have lower taxes or next November could be ugly. you promised .

Move 125 miles to the south and you will enjoy it.

Dude- you better worry about Oregon's tax structures. Today Columbia Sportswear is joining other major companies looking to move out of Oregon. They are saying the homeless break into employee cars every day, threaten to kill employees and defecate in the doorways every night. Such a nice place to locate a business. If they start leaving for cleaner states you will lose your tax base.

Oregon's tax structure has worked fine, and will if the republicans don't phuk it up. we have no sales tax and we can deduct out state taxes up to this point.

Portland has always sucked, the whole west side of the state sucks because of you carpetbaggers and pilgrims. less than half were born in Oregon. but find a city where you don't have any problems it's better than most according to most surveys.

Don't want to talk about the ax hike and debt plan do you ?

You said you don't mind paying taxes, I will leave it at that THANK YOU

The tax bill is going to pass. May take some tweaking but the republicans finally get it. Either pass something or give up congress next year. I lived in Portland from 1976 until 1988 and always took clients downtown for dinner and drinks. That place was safe and very clean then, Now it is an absolute $hithole. Those outsiders were starting to move there back then and just took over.

When I go to a ball game in downtown Phoenix it is clean and safe and no homeless and addicts lurking around. You offer them too much in free stuff and they will surely come. Our maximum for UE is only $980 a month here. How much do you give them? If they start new camps down in the riverbed the sheriff will tear them down.

I see people in SFO are proposing that the homeless be allowed to live in resident's back yards. Better clear out the back 40.

You are way more optimistic that the Republican senators. They will be voting to increase both the debt and deficit and there is NO WAY it is going to produce enough revenue to grow their way out of it.

My Home state senator came out against it today and will need to be paid off by making sure he brings home some bacon. So far if the numbers hold, they can't get to 51 even with Pence as the tie breaker.

The Senate bill is a dog.

A 3% growth yields over one trillion plus and the CBO projection is based on 1% over the ten years. The CBO missed on the Bush tax cuts by 75% low. I still think they will rally and pass something soon. We will see.

Are you sure about that revenue number? all it will take is the expected stock market correction to derail the growth number or a 2% rise in borrowing costs. Cutting taxes in a growing economy is a sure fire way to have no dry powder left for the coming downturn. They happen about every 5 to 7 years. Nobody has tamed them and nobody can stop them. Let the good times roll I guess.

The four major health care providers are making big profits from Obama care but costing over $1 trillion a year.

So you want a private health care market but you don't want the carriers to make a profit? Care to explain how that would work?

Also the cost of the ACA is estimated at $1.35 Trillion over 10 years, not a $1 Trillion a year, so you are simply lying.

Last Years numbers are below:

-The government will spend nearly $10 billion more this year, rising from about $32.8 billion in 2016 to about $42.6 billion in 2017, a 28 percent hike. The average monthly subsidy will rise from $291 per month to $367.

Source:
Those numbers come from a new report by the nonpartisan Center for Health and Economy, which used government data in combination with the organization's own subsidy estimates in order to produce the findings.

2018 will for sure be higher do to what the talking Yam did with the CSR payments and allowing carrier to raise rates at the 11th hour. An addition $9 billion cost to the Federal Treasury because he doesn't understand how the healthcare.gov market place actually works.

Quote:
-Ironically, the decision to end the $7 billion-a-year cost-sharing payments is likely to cost the federal government more than making them ? nearly $200 billion over 10 years,
according to the Congressional Budget Office.

Also more people are getting their plans for $0 premium due to the human tanning bed's actions. So making up lies to make your argument is a chickshyt way to argue.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/more-aca-plans-to-come-with-no-premiums-in-2018-1509096602

From the WSJ:
More ACA Plans to Come With No Premiums in 2018
Trump indirectly bolstered the federal subsidies that help consumers with their insurance premiums

Care to answer as to why you think you want a private health care system buy whine about carriers making profits? You can't have it both ways, either you want private carriers attempting to make a profit or you want a socialized system. Which is it?

Nemont

It is going to come down to McCain again and suspect his ?many concerns about the bill? will once again dash the Trumpteers hopes of victory

My B-I-L had brain cancer. McCain is dead and knows it so he may vote with the party or he could die before the vote. I think they can pass it without him this time as Murkowski and Collins are warming up to a yes as is Johnson. We will soon know.

According to what I heard...the tax bill will encourage off shore money back here to be invested in locally and create good jobs. It may (depending on who's numbers you use) add a trillion dollars to the deficit but at least we get something for our money. That would be a change.

If it takes a vote from Pence to pass it there is your sign. a bill so unpopular it can be used as hammer in upcoming elections.

Why would passing legislation 2/3 of voters don't like be better politically than dong nothing? if it passes let's address this again in a year and see if it was wise. that's like saying a turd in the punch bowl is better than plain punch.

This bill paying for itself is bullchit. it would be like me buying a ZX banking on $300 cattle. it's nonsense anyone too ignorant to see what they're trying to pull is hopeless.

McCain is now a yes vote so it will pass. He is looking very ill now so it is his last major vote and one for the party.

Sure appears they will pass it now. What will come out of conference given the two completely different bills?

Nemont

I hope they get rid of the mandate. I know people who make 40 grand a year that had to pay fines of $2200 last year. Not right to have ever ruled it as a tax as it is a punitive fine.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-30-17 AT 01:21PM (MST)[p]Then you must know some unicorn's or your friends are less than honest.

The Max penalty for a single person, no dependents at $40,000 in 2016 was $741

Married filing joint with 2 or more dependents at $40,000 was $2,085.

If you are going to have a guaranteed issue health insurance market there has to be a stick on the other side of the carrot or you will not have any companies want to participate.

Nemont

The unicorn is married and filing jointly so could be. I know that is what he told me. Another single guy told me $700+. Point is the government is forcing people to buy a lousy product or pay a big fine. You can't convince people that buying a policy with a $6000 per person deductible is a great deal. Typical salesman.

Typical of somebody who doesn't understand health insurance and how it changed in 2010. If you have a "friend" who is making $40,000 and married and they are paying the penalty then they are complete and total retards.

If they lived in Arizona in 2016, married filing joint and had a $40,000 income they could have gotten a silver level plan with a $50 deductible $750 Max out of pocket for $167 a month. They would get a tax credit that paid the rest. That is $2,004 a year versus a penalty of $2,085.

Nemont

He isn't very bright. I will tell him what you said. I know his kids get AHCCS but he and the wife are uninsured. They also have 2 kids so may be the premiums would be a lot higher.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-30-17 AT 02:41PM (MST)[p]Negative if they have 2 kids and they both qualified for AHCCS then his premium would be even lower.

2018 is a little different story in Arizona depending upon which county they live in. They would still qualify for the CSR and the lower premium but need to run through the market place to see where they end up.

In addition since their children were covered on a qualified plan for the year their maximum penalty for him and his wife would be $1,390 a year.

Nemont

So it's great when someone opts to go uninsured and then dumps their bills on the rest of us ? I don't quite get why this is deserving of the high five.
