People Freak Out After Oregon Strikes Law Banning Self-Service Gas Stations

A law passed through Oregon?s legislature in May and signed into law in June will allow counties with 40,000 residents or fewer to pump their own gas. Oregonians are not pleased about the change.

They must not be freaking out too much this is the first I've heard of it.

Looks like a good idea to me . there are places in eastern OR the fuel stations are 100 miles apart, if you're not there during business hours you're SOL if you don't know the owner. this way you could get fuel anytime if they set up for it. and they may not.

Doesn't effect me I have on farm storage and anyone with a business has been able to pump their own fuel at card locks forever.

Why do they not allow you to pump your fuel? It seems like a waste to pay someone to fill your tank. I remember in my small town in northern Az, there was one station with full service and they would clean your windows and check your tires, not just look at them, put a gauge to them. They would check the oil too. Do they do all of those things in Oregon?

It's been on the ballot many times and voters have always voted changing the law down.

Mostly because the thought is there are lots of folks like Manny who need a job and aren't capable of doing much else. which does make some sense, better they pump gas than end up on welfare. but for the last few years anyone can get a job and finding people to pump gas for minimum wage has no doubt become a problem.
