Trump on Energy

So I just read an article that quoted Trumps two sentences on energy from last nights speech.
"We have ended the war on American energy ? and we have ended the war on beautiful clean coal. We are now an exporter of energy to the world,"

Without starting an argument or name calling, what do you think about the US and energy? Should we be exporting energy now just because we can? Or should we be deferring some drilling and coal mining so as to produce just enough to replace imports? Should we be hoarding the rest for the day somewhere down the road when our demands are higher than what we can produce and are forced back into being slaves to groups like OPEC? It's a balance I suppose. On one hand there are jobs and money to be made. On the other hand there may be some of our natural resources and environment could be conserved or preserved for a time when the US needs it more to maintain energy independence.

Thoughts?

Yes we should export energy to costumers according to what the market dictates. The notion that we are going "save" out energy until later is not sound reasoning. I am not saying tear up every quarter section to put a well on but as a country that runs a huge trade deficit, the exporting of energy is the right thing to do.

In regards to coal exports for energy production - yes we should export as much as we possibly can. The American people have largely decided they do not want electrons created from coal. Other countries have made a more rational decision. No sound reason to horde our coal when Asia is perfectly viable market.

Hopefully our demand for fossil fuels will go down as new technologies advance and we become more efficient. Wind, solar, hydrogen, blah, blah, blah. Until then America has to be competitive in the world market place, and that means reasonably priced oil. We need to adjust our drilling to ensure that happens. We also need to have a reserve that we can call on if needed...IMO.

Coal is a dying industry globally , might as well sell it while the market is still there. you could argue we shouldn't because of environmental concerns but we've decided we don't give a FF about the future so get it while the getting is good.

Most of the oil we export is for logistical advantage not because we have an excess.

You let Hillary sell off 20% of our uranium and suddenly you're worried about our energy policy? Really?

LAST EDITED ON Feb-02-18 AT 06:59AM (MST)[p]DW. expound on this.
Example. It is cheaper and more efficient export the oil form Alaska to Japan and import oil form Mexico and Canada for the refineries in Texas than it would be to supply those refineries with Alaskan oil.

DW,

Who is "you"? I can't tell if you are saying this to me or someone else.

As a guy who HAS to drive 3/4 and 1 ton trucks for work not to the show and shine.. And a guy who "gets" to pay a diesel surcharge for every supply delivery I would love an electric, hydrogen, wind truck that hauls heavy and is RELIABLE. There ain't one yet so crap gas mileage continues.

I also don't want any more American kids getting shot up patrolling oil delivery.

So as a realist, we should export. If we are sufficient. HOWEVER further exploration to supply exports I disagree with.
