Maybe next they can name highway 191 through Sublette County Wyoming the "Obama Highway to the Oil and Gas Fields" since he was just as supportive of energy as Trump is National Parks. Noel has nothing better to do than this? Like a budget?

Rep. Mike Noel proposes a Utah highway name change to honor President Donald Trump

Make highways great again?
Rep. Mike Noel is proposing to rename a route through southern Utah as the ?Donald J. Trump National Parks Highway.?

Noel, R-Kanab, famous for fighting the federal government over public lands, says it would help send the message that ?contrary to some beliefs out there, Donald Trump really is a supporter of public lands. He?s a big supporter of national parks.?

Part of his motive for introducing HB481, said Noel, is to thank Trump for shrinking the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments.

That action has been decried as a travesty by environmentalists and American Indian tribes, who are challenging the executive orders in federal court. And Noel?s bill is seen by some as a stunt aimed at rubbing salt in the wound.

"We are not going to waste any of our time on his ludicrous bill. I would certainly hope he's not serious about it. It looks like a message bIll to me," said Ashley Soltysiak, of the Sierra Club.

Noel says he's serious about his proposal.
?For me personally, I was really, really happy that he downsized the Grand Staircase monument and Bears Ears because I believe that multiple use of public lands with adequate environmental protections is better than taking everything off the table,? Noel said.

Go team!

Why not Trump deserves recognition for the damage he's done, and while they're at it let's name it the Timothy McVeigh Parkway in Oklahoma City.

There?s got to be a road in Oregon named Crown Royal

Not that I'm aware of. I don't think we have any towns or roads named for beer or beaners either. do you ?

I know you have stuff named for Ronald Reagan though. remember him ? a real republican ? a WWII vet. as I recall he supported an assault weapon ban ? yeah, I'm pretty sure he did.

Does that include Ball bats and golf clubs. ?

I don't think so. but it sure is relevant.

One has to wonder how many people would not have died from mass shootings if the bill Reagan helped pass had never expired. but who cares right ? a man card is something the tiny Johnson's can't live without. those kids are a price you're willing to pay.

Anyway, back to the Trump Hi way. what will the speed limit be ? 55 one day and 110 the next ? like Trump's views on the issues it will change every 24 hours .

A highway named after Trump? How about a county road that dead ends at the dump? Paved in gold. Put the funding in the infrastructure bill.

It was already funded but those shovel-ready jobs (hahaha) weren't quite as shovel ready as we thought.

?Donald J. Trump Utah National Parks Highway? meets ?Stormy Daniels rampway?

Some Republican lawmakers in Utah are so pleased with President Trump?s decision to shrink two Utah national monuments that they want to honor him with his own road, the ?Donald J. Trump Utah National Parks Highway.?

The proposal would put the Trump brand on the existing Utah National Parks Highway, 631 miles of scenic roads through southern Utah?s stunningly beautiful canyons, a stretch that includes Zion National Park, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Canyonlands National Park. It was written by Utah Rep. Mike Noel (R) and passed out of the House Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment Standing Committee on a party-line vote Monday.

Republicans praised Trump for shrinking the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments in December, opening them up for oil, gas and coal mining potential. Noel said Trump wasn?t getting enough credit for his efforts. Passing this proposal, Noel said, was a chance to give it to him.

?I think he's done a tremendous amount, and I think with seven more years we can turn this country around,? Noel said during the hearing. ?I think it's a small price to pay to name a highway after him when he does in fact protect public lands.?

State Sen. Jim Dabakis (D) responded with his own renaming proposal: If the House passes the bill, then Dabakis threatened to attach an amendment in the Senate that would rename the frontage road that runs along the would-be Donald J. Trump Utah National Parks Highway.

Dabakis will seek to call it the ?Stormy Daniels rampway,? named for the former porn star to whom Trump?s lawyer, Michael Cohen, reportedly paid $130,000 to keep quiet about her relationship with Trump.

HB 481, ?Donald J. Trump Utah National Parks Highway Designation? passed House Committee 9 to 2. If it gets to the Senate, I will present an amendment that the frontage road be designated as the Stormy Daniels rampway. #utpol pic.twitter.com/GvuVv0me98

It's unclear whether the highway renaming bill will be enacted.

The Stormy Daniels rampway amendment has no chance, for many reasons, among them the fact that Democrats are outnumbered in the Senate 5 to 24.

Trump?s executive orders that reduced the monuments, while backed by mining interests and most of Utah?s senior Republicans, drew intense backlash and protest from environmental groups and Native American tribes, who collectively filed five lawsuits against the Trump administration.

Trump stripped roughly 1.1 million acres from Bears Ears, reducing its protected area by 85 percent. He reduced 800,000 acres from Grand Staircase-Escalante, cutting it by 46 percent. As The Washington Post reported, no president has sought to modify national monuments established under the Antiquities Act in more than half a century.

Conservatives, including Noel, have praised Trump?s decision for eliminating various restrictions that come with lands designated national monuments. Noel said that just because Trump shrank the monuments doesn't mean he removed protections.

?You get people who stand up and say that he took away protections of these lands. It's absolutely false,? Noel said of Trump?s orders during the committee hearing on the bill. ?And the letters you've been getting saying, ?he's the worst president in history; he has decimated the public land ? why would you recognize him?? We should recognize him, because that's an absolute lie. And if we don't stand up for the things that are right, who will do that??

Utah Rep. Joel K. Briscoe (D) said during the committee hearing Monday that, of the 300 emails he received regarding the bill to honor Trump, only one was in support. Some of the complaints were from people who own property along the current Utah National Parks Highway, he said. Others offered suggestions for different notable people to honor: John Wesley Powell, known for his 19th-century expeditions along the Green and Colorado Rivers; Aldo Leopold, a renowned American ecologist; and Ernest Yazhe, a Navajo code talker.

?Normally we reserve these honors for people [who] have served a full term, sometimes posthumously,? Briscoe said.

Democrats also highlighted the estimated cost to install all new signs emblazoned with Trump?s name: $124,000.

I have a little trouble believing there were death threats made but that seems to be the thing to claim these days. Fakes News!

Proposed President Trump highway turns into a dead end as Utah Rep. Mike Noel drops bill, says personal attacks wore him down

State Rep. Mike Noel has dropped his controversial proposal to name a southern Utah highway after President Donald Trump, insisting he had ?enough votes to pass this bill? but was worn down by hundreds of personal attacks and death threats.

?If you say nice things about the president, you are somehow a despicable person,? the Republican lawmaker said Wednesday, pulling the legislation less than a week after it was introduced.

Noel had wanted to rebrand the 631-mile Utah National Park Highway as a way to honor Trump for listening to the state?s Republican leaders and downsizing two contested national monuments, Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante. The legislator was swiftly ridiculed instead.

One woman, he said, yelled a string of profanities at him that ended with a distinct ?f--- off.? Someone else called him a ?low-life.? A few constituents got his home number and said ?foul, vile? things when his daughter picked up.

But Noel stands by his praise of Trump as ?a supporter of public lands? and contends he wasn?t ?condoning things [the president] has done wrong? (such as the allegations of mistreating women).

?It was a hard, hard vote for my colleagues, even though the president has done really wonderful things for Utah,? he said, noting there was some reluctance over ?the connotations with voting for it.? Certainly, there were critics.

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert, for one, said it ?a little premature.? And Democratic Sen. Jim Dabakis vowed to mockingly amend HB481 to name the frontage road ?Stormy Daniels rampway? in reference to the adult film star who allegedly had an affair with Trump.

Navajo Nation leaders, too, responded to the proposal Wednesday just hours before Noel killed the effort (though the lawmaker said he hadn't seen their statement before he made his decision). They called it vengeful, hostile and, ultimately, paradoxical. Trump?s name, they said, shouldn't be on a scenic route winding past five national parks after he went against the tribe?s wishes in slashing Bears Ears.

?To name a highway after Trump is like putting salt into an open wound,? said the nation?s President Russell Begaye.

Even dipshyt Herbert thought that was asinine.

Heard on the radio today Noel is retiring. I guess he finally realized he's worthless.

Usually that would be cause for celebration but knowing TARDS like I do, he'll just be replaced by another enemy of public lands azzhole.

Probably some douche bag like Lyman.

Hey Huffy?

You know Lyman?

Did you partake in the Illegal ATV Ride?

So... you're saying you can be for the NRA and for public land? Get out?
For some of the idiots on here, Trump could part the Red sea, become libertarian, replace Pence with Paul and still not be happy. Ya'll love to hate.
To get back to Bighorns question, "don't they have something better to do than this?". My answer is yes. They need to go back to their full time, private sector job, and legislate when they need to. These politicians sit around and think of crap like renaming a highway, or what sticker should be on a bathroom door. States like Oregon, and I guess from this post Utah, may need full time legislation, but I don't.
