In 2015 CNN did have a article concerning trusting armed security officers being a bad idea. Typical anti gun stuff from CNN. I could not locate any CNN article that directly accused the Maryland school officer of being trigger happy.

DW, I don't want to start a pissing match over your question. I see where you are going with it. I googled how many school shootings CNN is claiming have happened this year. I imagine the point you are making is they lump all sorts of crap into "school shootings", not just the ones I tend to think of. I agree that the media is sensationalizing that number to promote their agenda.
I guess my question for everyone is what should they be including if they are going to report such statistics? They report 17. Here the link I found.

Of those 17 school shootings so far this year, I wonder how many involved "assault rifles"?...I think probably one.
Since the outcry is to ban assault rifles, does that mean that the protestors are okay with school shootings with other guns? It must be, otherwise they would be outraged at the other shootings.
Or does it mean that they will settle for assault rifles now and when that is accomplished then they will focus on the other outrageous assault guns?
I suspect the latter.
There is no such thing as a gun being called an assault weapon until that gun is picked up by a human and used. Only after a hammer is picked up and used to hit someone can it be called an assault weapon. Until that time it's just a hammer. Same with a gun. A single shot rifle will eventually be the new assault rifle that needs to be banned.

I guess that's my whole point NV. The media sensationalizes everything to the point seeing a graphic like the one I posted in the OP doesn't seem unbelievable. I think we all know what a school shooting is. I don't think it's an instructor having an accidental discharge and injuring a student is a school shooting. I don't think an accidental discharge in a school parking lot is a school shooting. I don't think someone unaffiliated with the school parking in the school parking lot and committing suicide is a school shooting. I doubt we'll ever solve the problem if our media can't even be honest about things. What should we do to solve the problem you ask? The immediate thing we should do is post armed guards at school entrances. We guard everything else we value with guns why wouldn't we guard our children with guns? As silly as it sounds this whole anti bullying thing has some merit. Teach them that creating an outcast doesn't end well. The left always preaches education is key. I agree, so why don't we have firearm safety training and education in school? Teach them they aren't toys, it's not a game. Teach them the finality of pulling the trigger, those things you and I were taught at a young age. Finally we shouldn't be afraid to send a kid for help that's obvious to everyone around him that he has issues. I don't hold my breath for any of this to happen. My jaded way of thinking in my old age says the left is excited every time one of these things happens so they can further their agenda of gun confiscation. I truly believe this is one of their goals. If you listen you will hear them tell you that. Like Ocho says, it's just a matter of time before the next one.

Thank you DW. I agree with you 100%. We also need to get the parents back into parenting. It's always someone else's fault these days. People wont even take responsibility for their own kids behavior. The only other thing I would add is that the dishonesty in the media comes from both sides of the aisle. Every one of them are guilty of slanting the data to suit their needs. It's not just the "news" any more. It has become a political platform. Would for the days of Walter Cronkite.

Agree NV, parenting is the root of the problem. I just don't know how we fix that part. And the media bias does go both ways the trouble is there's one Outlet of the right and 10 Outlets of the left. So people get the slanted version of the left the most which is influencing the direction we're heading.
I also agree with what eel said, we give up our AR's now and before they're all destroyed they'll be asking for our handguns. That March this weekend wasn't just a bunch of kids. NVB, it's just my opinion of course, but I think Americans have lost their sense of responsibility of gun ownership. The right to own a gun comes with a very serious responsibility to use that gun for its intended purpose in a safe and respectful manner. And the consequences of misuse of a firearm need to be enhanced. People need to know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, we will not tolerate misuse or disrespect of gun ownership. That's where I would start.

I agree it's how they're raised. I was lucky and had both parents in the house every day. This latest shooter didn't, so who's fault is it with him? It's easy and lazy to blame the gun.
Don't forget we've always been interested in owning military style weapons since the beginning, I can explain that more if anyone is interested.
NVB is right that both sides of the media is slanted. You still hear people calling them automatic weapons, and if you try to correct them, you're some crazy gun guy.
I guess my opinion is that the media should be better and run corrections more often. Another idea is to teach kids in school about guns and violence. Health Class seems like a place to start.

Another problem I see, again with the media, is the constant "reporting" over and over about the shootings. That sounds contrary to the first amendment and transparency and openness in reporting which I support in most cases. However, kids are so impressionable and most are constantly looking for recognition and to make a name for themselves. It is constantly thrown in their faces how many kids were killed here or there and how shocking it all is. A kid who is really struggling for identity, is being bullied and/or has mental health issues feels they have to make their name by making the next shooting more atrocious than the last.

What changed is it's not rural America where these shootings happen for the most part. So the answer to your question is right there where I told you to look.
People don't raise their kids
Media sensationalizes killings
Kids (and adults) are not taught the responsibility of gun ownership
Nobody is held accountable from tee ball on up.
Social media and the internet is the bullying capital of the world because people can be assholes and not be held accountable.
We live in a country where people do not have respect for others. We see it every day on the news and the internet.
Plus all the other things eel, DW and others mentioned that I missed. Its not about your kid. Or mine. It's about the ones who aren't taught anything about respect or responsibility.

There is a fairly common thread: a lethal mixture of mental illness, feeling alone or bullied and feeling like they are fighting back by taking a gun into a school and killing others.
What caused the change? I blame late 20th and 21st century parenting. The helicopter parents, the awarding of participation trophies, never teaching kids that they may lose at something or face any kind of adversity. We quit teaching kids to be resilient, respectful and reasonable. A whole host of things that happened to change the way kids view their world.

You know what, a lot of people love Trump. Why are you guys giving him a free pass on the spending? I mean, you have to be honest he signed that bill and he didn't have to. He said he'll never do it again but he didn't have to in the first place. There is things to like about Trump but beating Obama on spending certainly isn't one of them.

Among the officer corps. Trump barely crack 30% and he isn't over 50% even with the enlisted troops.
My brother is CW3 in Fort Hood, he is plugged in the officer cadre and he says they almost all are not Trump fans. They didn't like Obama much either but believe Trump isn't the answer to the military because he is like Obama, never served a day in his life.
