The Justice Department's internal watchdog reportedly has sent a criminal referral for fired FBI official Andrew McCabe to the U.S. attorney?s office in Washington.

The move follows a recent DOJ inspector general report that found McCabe leaked a self-serving story to the press and later lied about it to then-Director James Comey and federal investigators, prompting Attorney General Jeff Sessions to fire him on March 16.

The Washington Post reported that the IG referred the finding that McCabe misled investigators to the top federal prosecutor in D.C. to examine whether he should be charged.

Representatives with the Justice Department, inspector general?s office and U.S. attorney?s office all declined to comment.

Republican Rep. Mark Meadows backed the move in a tweet Thursday afternoon.

"The criminal referral from the IG is the right decision. It's about time we have some accountability for this type of conduct at the Justice Department," he said.

so Trump once again was talking out of his @ss? Is the IG to be trusted to do what is right or not?

This might be an interesting story if the president wasn't being investigated for 133 crimes.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-19-18 AT 06:16PM (MST)[p]They probably won't prosecute him or he'll get off on some technicality.

So Flynn gets indicted for violating Title 18 USC, section 1001 (a)(2) which is lying to the FBI. Mccabe is accused by the IG of doing the same thing so hopefully he gets the same treatment. How ironic that two of the former top dogs at the FBI are now pointing fingers at each other. Talk about a dumpster fire, Comey is running around tooting his horn and promoting his book while McCabe is calling him a liar.

And then there are the Comey memos.... LOL, what a disaster they are for Comey's case. This guy is trash and I hope he gets his due too.

Just maybe Trump making those tweets is what jabbed the spurs to force someone of getting off their butt and do something for once since D.C. is noted for lack of action on politicians at times.

We might get to see if Nemont was right in his assessment that no one would be tried, or again if he was wrong.

You should stick to eating donuts and telling lies about your career to the waitress.

Let's see Hillary, Obama, Lynch, Comey, et al. any of them been recommended for prosecution? It has been Trump's department of Justice for 15 months, nary a word on that front.

Lock them all up, just don't pretend the current administration is not a criminal enterprise as well. The swamp is alive and well and rapidly filling the west wing again. Bolton is the very essence of a swamp creature.

Do McCabe's actions rise to level of criminal prosecution?

Fired FBI official Andrew McCabe?s fate rests in the hands of a Trump-appointed prosecutor, now that the Justice Department's inspector general has sent a criminal referral over an investigative finding that he lied to James Comey and bureau investigators about a media disclosure.

That referral, sent by Inspector General Michael Horowitz, is now being considered by the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, Jessie Liu. President Trump appointed Liu in July 2017.

?We were advised of the referral within the past few weeks,? McCabe?s counsel, Michael Bromwich, a former Justice Department inspector general, said in a statement. ?Although we believe the referral is unjustified, the standard for an IG referral is very low. We have already met with staff members from the U.S. Attorney?s Office.?

Bromwich added, ?We are confident that, unless there is inappropriate pressure from high levels of the administration, the U.S. Attorney?s Office will conclude that it should decline to prosecute.?

The Justice Department's internal watchdog is probing James Comey's handling of classified information as part of the memos he gave to a friend documenting discussions with President Trump.

A source familiar with the probe confirmed to Fox News the inspector general is looking at whether classified information was given to unauthorized sources as part of a broader review of Comey's communications outside the bureau -- including media contact.

The developments put the ex-FBI boss in the crosshairs of an investigation just as his former deputy, Andrew McCabe, faces a criminal referral over a separate leak.

The Wall Street Journal reported that at least two of those Comey memos have been to found to contain material now deemed classified, prompting the inspector general investigation.

A broader set of memos detailing Comey?s conversations with Trump were handed over to Congress Thursday evening.
