Preserving a branch

I want to mount my 2 Euro mounts to an aspen branch. It is already dried out and in good shape. Does anybody have experience with this? Should I shellac it, or will it last for a while without doing that?

Advice?

Is there bark on it? Bark may come a little loose over time but I have no experience with preserving that. Assuming it will be inside I don't see why you would have to put anything on it unless you are going for a a finished look. Put the mount up the way you want it and let the question stew for a while.

Whats on the branch?? Leaves? You could try a 50/50 of water and Modge Podge? I know alot of people use that to keep bugs and stuff out. Go to taxinet net and search preserving a branch should be lots of ideas.
