I just finished up this pedestal. I was clearing fence line in the summer of 2011 and went to but down the tree, then I saw the antler stuck in th fork. I figure it must have been there at least 40 years. The tines have a little flex to them, and they have moss and lichen on them. I found some nice pieces of white shale with some good texture to it and used them for a base and a top. I used an old, twisted, and burnt cedar log for the middle piece. Peeled the majority of the bark, and burnt the stuff that was deep in the crevices. Slapped a clear lacquer finish on it and lagged the 4 pieces together. The deer was killed on the Alton CWMU and scores 240 3/8". Jeremy Chamberlain at Braggin' Rights Taxidermy mounted the deer and we put it on this pedestal for the Sportsmen's Expo in Salt Lake City this weekend. If you are up there stop in the Tines Up booth and this pedestal and deer should be there. Let me know what you think of it.
