I mounted this buck for my dad recently. He was killed on the second to the last trophy hunt on the island ever. What a damn shame that the California bureaucrats have exterminated this magnificent animal from the the island.

He is 34" wide and scores 218" SCI.

Nice job on that buck!that is a shame they killed those animals off the island, but what can we expect from our great leaders.

My dad is 79 years old and has killed 100's of deer in his lifetime, but this one tops em' all.
Thanks for the compliment! I mount allot of stuff, but big bucks are my passion and what I work for, but hunting them is what I live for.

Never thought about a lifesize muley until I saw this one. Amazing.

Santa Rosa Island what a joke and how sad.

The mount has had lots of praise from everyone who has seen it. It really is like looking at the Grande Canyon, the picture doesn't do it justice. I'm guessing the deer was nearly 300 lbs. on the hoof. He has him displayed in his home office on a custom walnut table with the eyes of the great buck level with the eyes of the standing viewer. It certainly is the focal point of the room.
Thanks for your comment.

By the way, that velvet is the phonie stuff. We lost the original velvet and had the fake stuff put on. I never have been a fan of the fake velvet, but did some research and was able the manipulate it to make it look super real. I think it turned out fantastic and so does everyone who has seen it. It is also bullet-proof and will last forever.

Magnificent buck. My compliments on the taxi work. Truly a shame the state destroying this unique resource.

Eldorado

Thanks. I will be posting an add soon in the CA taxidermy section. You will then be able to see more of my work. Tell your buddies...I could use the business.

Great buck. It is a shame about the island. Nothing like a big muley with the ocean in the background.

Where are you located?

No it's not, it's the fake stuff that I manipulated to make look more life like. I think they turned out really nice in view of the fact that I don't care for the fake velvet because it looks....fake! I used a dremel tool with a little wire wheel and made viens and nicks and then used a wire brush to create swirls in the velvet, then some airbrushing.
The stuff is bullet proof also.

wow that is a great looking mount, love the details in the base of the neck. super nice job

Do you do work for other people? Amazing job!! If yeah where do you live and do you have a business name?

Nevermind just read other posts about your location but didnt see a business name?

My name is Grady Miller (Living Trophies Taxidermy)and I work alone. My shop is about 35/40 miles north of Sacramento, CA

Grady,

Whats your turn around been like lately? seems every taxi i find starts out fast and then the turn around slows waaaaay down.

My turn around time is around 7/8 months. If it gets to be over a year, then I need help. I know the program because before I was a taxidermist I had to wait for my stuff to get done and I didn't like it. So, my deal is get it done as soon as possible, or find another line of work!
I use a tannery in Montana and they are slow, but very good. It takes me about 5/6 months just for the tanned hides to get back from them. I could use a tannery that takes 3 months (and have), and I was not happy with the tan. I offer a rush service also that won't break the bank.
hope this helps.

Thanks....i marked you under my favories a long time ago already...you do outstanding work!! I will definitly be calling you next time i need some work done (hopefully this year)!

Nice buck! My buddies dad used guide out there, it really is a shame what they did to that island and the family it belonged to.

Unfortunately Eel, what you heard is correct. They are only a memory now. It is a true testiment of how our politicians can destroy anything they want with no repercussion. There was a huge outcry to save the animals on the Island, but to know avail.

>That's an extremely rare trophy. I
>hear they're extinct now.

>Eel
I'm hoping for the same thing will happen in Nov. for the libs who destroyed these animals. Walt 264 mag

Yeah Walt, I've got my fingers crossed. I'm afraid that there are too many out there that are getting a hand out and don't want to give it up and all kinds of promises that won't be kept. Those are the ones we have to watch out for. They are the people that vote for the sorry ass libs we are talking about.
