My brother does a little taxidermy work and does a great job with what he does.
I want to find someone to dry tan the cape of a deer I killed this year, the guy he uses has had his two elk capes for over a year now and i'm pretty leery of his operation. Live in utah, anywhear local that does a good job with a fairly fast turn around time?

They do my dry tan and they are awesome. Talk to Bill and tell him that Grady Miller recommended him.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-19-12 AT 04:19AM (MST)[p]You are correct in being Leary about anyone taking that long to tan a hide. It sounds like the guy must be tanning his own hides because no reputable, full time tanner is going to take that long. Never let anyone do a 'home' tan on any hide, send it to a good tannery. There are half a dozen very good ones out west here, Glacier is a good one. H &H , Moyle Mink, Quality Fur Dressing and Wildlife Gallery are some others.

No it should not take this amount of time. As far as "home tanning", I'm not sure about that. I do not tan stuff myself but there are people that can do a good tan. As mentioned there are a lot of "good" tanneries out there and also some not so good.

Have only had wet tans done. But he does dry tans as well.
