I'm not easily impressed but that is impressive both the lion remount and deer. My congratulations on a very fine job.

WOW that is some great work...I LMAO at the first try by someone on that Lion. I don't see how anybody can do that work and give it to a customer with a straight face. Was the first attempt by just a home done job? You also did a great job on that mulie...

Thanks for posting your web/info. I never knew anyone could fix a mess like that lion...and make it look awesome..

That is an wicked before and after taxi job! This reminds me of a show I seen called Tattoo Nightmares where awesome cover ups are done to nasty botched ink jobs. Maybe someone should start a show called taxidermy nightmares. This would definately fit that catagory! Good job.

Aim small... miss small!

is this by chance the same lion that got all the buzz about a year ago. All I remember is it had a ton of responses about how the lion looked. It almost lookes like the same one. Great job on fixing it!!!

...In response to the comments and questions about this cat:

Not sure who did the first mount. The customer paid someone to do the first mount.

I checked the archives to see if this was that cat that got all the buzz a year ago and found that it is not the same cat.

and,

I really like the "Taxidermy Nightmares" TV show idea! This type of taxidermy redo work could be a new prospect for taxidermists. But it is risky because you never know what to expect and some things just are not "fixable". The age of the mount and tanning are serious factors on the diffuctly of the fix.

Tony, yes, I used the same hide and form. Rehydrated very carefully, took everything apart, and remounted it.

Thank god the first photos are the before photos. I was slowly scrolling down looking and thinking that the next photos were going to be the before photos of it alive. Amazing work!

extremely impressed! especially after reading about the clarification! I can't believe how awesome that turned out! I see very few cats that come out well. Congrats and excellent work!

Beautiful work! Wow - I'll bet that customer was relieved. That first job was just pathetic. Great looking deer too.

HOOK 'EM!

Incredible!
So is it always possible to rehydrate any mount and redo it? I have a sheep I would love to have redone, but I fear it will ruin the cape. What are your thoughts?

I had no idea that was possible, tremendous job on all accounts. I don't feel there are many taxidermist that are good at cats but you sir do a fantastic job.

Mule deer is excellent as well.

Sorry I know this is a old post, but you cannot re mount a life size or any mount period!! Look at it this way, have you ever had a wet leather glove? It shrinks and cracks...lol the cat was glued to the form and the cape was soaked in water you cant do it. If you ask for a re mount you get a different cape!!!! Or a whole new lion lol.........

Droptine,

I consider myself an experienced taxidermist and would not advise anyone without proper experience and skill to attempt a project like this. I had remounted shoulder mounts and lifesize mounts before. And they were in just as bad or worse condition as this one. When I took on this job I wasn't sure if it would work either. I soaked the lion and very carefully took it apart. I had a lot of time fixing areas where the skin had cracked and became brittle, especially in the tail and ears. I re-oiled the skin to help with softening the leather and give it better stretch again also. The original mannikin was a good lion form from Mckenzie, so I re-used it. I bought a new change-out head, new glass eyes, and a new tail form. I remounted the original skin and it turned out better than I hoped. I did not buy a different cape or use any parts from any other capes. This client was and still is very fortunate in how this turned out.

Droptine, you are wrong. Not every skin can be re-mounted, but many can. It depends on many factors. I'd be willing to bet that no glue was used in the original mount anyway.

Dang few taxi's are capable of doing lifesize lions that look awesome. You sir have got it down. Very nice job.

Did you Guys know I do Taxidermy work on the side?:D:D:D

Nice Job!

Does it cost double to De-Mount and then Re-Mount?:D
