I know this sounds like I'm putting the wagon before the horse, but i am the kind of person who likes to be ready long before something takes place. I need references for a good Elk Taxi in New Mexico. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Brian you can got to New Mexico Taxidermy Association. Heres the linkhttp://www.nmtaxidermy.org/

NMPaul is goig to get me sent in the right direction I am sure. If I get a Bull, seeing how it will be my first, It's going on the wall, next to my other first specie harvest's. I have a great Taxi in here in Michigan, but don't want to chance the cape going bad in the 26 hour drive back. Also, I kow what mout I am looking for. Not sure if you seen In-The_Shadows mount he posted in the Elk forum, but that is a great mout, oe of the best I have seen from the picture anyway. I am pretty sure my Guide will put me on the Bulls, just have to do my part... Again, thanks for the info...

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the info on Taxi's. I truely appreciate it being from Michigan. Not that Michigan is top on a Hunters States to enter for Elk Hunting, but if you get lucky, or are in Michigan, let me know, I've huted the state for 30+ years and know it well. I've always said that Hunters and Outdoorsman/Women are the nicest people you can find... Always happy to return the favors as well.

Another option would be to have a taxidermist in New Mexico cape it out, turn the ears, lips, etc. And then ship the cape back to you and your taxidermist in Michigan. That would save you about 400 dollars shipping the finished mount back to MI.
