Form choices

This might be a stupid question to many of you but I'm going to ask anyway. Has anyone ever used whitetail forms for mule deer? I would definitely use a changeout head but is there any other problems that you'd run into? The reason I ask is just because of the bigger variety of position choices in whitetail forms compared to mule deer.

Sure you can, you can also try your hand at altering a mule deer form. Better get used to it if your gonna be doing taxidermy. Alot of clients now adays want something unique which requires alterations. Especially in lifesize mounts.

Thanks. I've done some minor alterations it just seems like if the whitetail forms were a possibility it would open a whole new door of positions that would be simpler than altering, but would everything else work? Would my neck measurements be the same?

There are alot of mule deer forms out there.
Jetz supply, Mckenzie, truffit, research, Joe combs, matuska, and headquarters taxidermy supply. It all depends on your deer skin, you make the form fit the skin not the skin fit the form. The only issue I ran into with a whitetail form was that the shoulders were way too big. It was only a 20 inch neck but the shoulders were huge on the whitetail form. A Lil rasping and it went together.

We alter a lot of whitetail forms to muleys. Some of the really large Coombs forms work well for a full rut muley. Brisket alterations are needed along with a different head. Jet makes some pretty good muley forms. McKenzie muley forms are hanis. Necks are extremely inaccurate and noses are horrible. Some of the muley forms from headquarters are pretty good but you need to reshape the faces a little. Good luck.
