How Do You Attach Elk Sheds?

Question for you taxidermists or others who have mounted elk sheds. How do you position and attach them? Manufactured skull plate (like mountain mikes)? Build your own plate? Use something different altogether?

I have attached several deer sheds with no problem at all using mountain mikes skulls and home made plates, and they all look very natural. But when I try to do it with elk sheds, it looks stupid. For some reason, I can't get them to sit right. Part of the reason is they are big sheds (350"+ with really good mass), and getting them into position and keeping them in position when drilling holes and trying to attach them is next to impossible. Is there some trick out there I don't know about that I can use to help position the sheds how I want them, keep them in that position, and then fasten a skull plate to them?
