Replica Antler Cost

I killed a buck that I would like to have a set or two of replica antlers made of. I primarily want them for back up in the case of fire or theft. The few people I've spoken with charge $1400-1500 to do it. Anybody know of someone that does a good job, but isn't so expensive. I'm having trouble justifying spending double what my shoulder mount is going to cost.

Thanks!

That's just the cost of them. I've looked into it quite a bit and nearly everyone is similarly priced. You'll really be sad when you find someone that will do it for a couple hundred dollars cheaper and it looks terrible.

Wow, I did not realize that replica antlers were so spendy! I can see why you would think twice in making that investment. I know of some folks that have made replicas as gifts for their hunting partners who have helped in bagging a big buck, and it was a team effort. I have new respect for that thoughtful and generous nature.

I assume that it is quite an ordeal to make a good set of replicas, this the high cost? Would be interested in seeing that whole process, and what is involved.

The time it takes to build a mold and pour a set takes alot of time. I have done a set before and was into it alot of $$ and even more time. But the look on my hunting partners face was priceless when I give him set mounted up.

The process is very time consuming. Then comes the painting of the antlers which is a chore within itself in order to look convincing real. A bad paint job can ruin the entire project.
