Boiling skulls

The last two antelope skulls I boiled came out with dark spots around bridge of nose and up toward horn bases. My son?s deer skull came out fine. What do I need to do to remedy this next time? Thanks for your help.

Don't boil them too long in the nasty greasy water. Spend 2 hours picking and cleaning the skull , try and get mostly everything off then put it in the water for about 15 min. Those are grease spots that you are boiling into the skull. Soak it in Acetone for a few weeks and it may remove the grease.

You may be able to get rid of (or at least dull) the spots with hydrogen peroxide? If using peroxide paste I'll coat the skull with fairly thick peroxide overnight. Rinse and soak several coats until the skull is white. You can get the peroxide at hair supply shops.
