I've pretty much only made one type of stew ever and am looking for some new variations, ideas, or recipes with the winter coming up. I typically crockpot a large can of V8 juice with a couple pounds of cubed deer or elk steak, corn, green beans, celery, carrots, cubed potatoes, onions, peppers, ect...cook on low heat all day.

If you have a great stew recipe please post it up, thanks!!

LAST EDITED ON Oct-16-09 AT 03:48PM (MST)[p]I like to make my stews with a chicken stock or chicken broth base. Basically the same as yours, I just use 1-2 cans of chicken broth and some water instead of the v-8 or tomatoe paste/ stewed tomatoes.

Edit....I've also used french onion soup as a base and that was really good too, but it has a stronger flavor......it works really well for covering up gamey tasting meat.

Both are great ideas but I'm really liking the sound of that french onion soup...I'm a big fan of that stuff!! Definately will be trying both this winter, thank you much for the ideas Hardway!!

Anyone else have anything different??

That's pretty close to mine but I also add brussel sprouts. They add a unique flavor.
