"Stock Up Now on Mountain House Meals"

They'll become hard to get your hands on come June and July. I know there's been a few times that I've ran from store to store looking for these Mountain House Meals. They're also a lot cheaper right now on Amazon than anywhere else. The 6 packs bring the price down in $6.20 range versus $9.00. Some are free shipping as an "add-on", so add them to your cart for when you order something else.

I always greatly appreciate your support of the site by shopping with sponsors, advertisers and partners

I just bought 2 6-packs of these meals. The price is really good. I just saw the same meals at Cabela's for an extra $2 for each meal. Good deal right now.

It's funny how one changes over the years. I still remember a buddy of mine saying that he thought backpacker meals were so good he ate them at home when his wife didn't cook. I laughed at him and said he was crazy.
But honestly, they are real good. I don't eat them at home, but they're good, easy food on the mountain.

Seems like the last time I ate them after a long day of hunting the 2.5-3 serving pouch was just about right for 1 person. Right?

Also, unless my math is off, it is cheaper to buy 6 singles than the 6 packs for a couple of them.

I don't think so on the price. The 6 packs are about $37, so $6.20 each. Individually I don't think they're that cheap.

Founder: Beef stew 6 pack is $41.99. Singles are $6.99. $6.99 x 6 is $41.94

Chicken fried rice is $42.44. single is $7.02 $7.02 x 6 is $42.12

Not much, but is cheaper by the single, so someone who doesn't want 6 of them can still save

Maybe the price went up since you looked?

Do you eat these as single servings for 1 person?

Do you guys who have used these generally use the 2.5 serving size for 1 meal for one person?

Yes, I have to eat the whole bag for one meal. There's not really 2.5 servings in there. They're like many other things when it comes to the servings.
But be careful because at Walmart they now sell the mountain house meals but they're smaller, the equivalent to maybe one serving. I need more calories than that.

As far as the price, some of them I didn't look close at the per unit price in the 6 packs. I just saw that they were a lot cheaper than anywhere else I've bought them. Not sure how long they'll be cheaper, you know? It's hard to spend $9.00 per meal. About $6.00 I can handle, once it gets up around $7.00+ I have to look at other options. I'm cheap I guess.
The mountain house meals are better than my other options, and easier, so I'd rather have them.

I don't think they are a sponsor, but the best deals on Mountain House I've gotten recently were from https://beprepared.com/ (Emergency Essentials).

They are a Utah company, maybe you can work something out with them.

Occasionally they will go on sale at 30% off.

I tend to buy the 3 and 4 day boxes for a bit of variety. Generally can get them down about $5 a package or so.

Right now they don't really have anything on sale.

The good thing about Mountain House is that they have like a 20 year shelf life, when they go on sale you can buy a bunch and they are pretty much never going to go bad.

Sometimes different stores have the buckets for sale too.

Here's one on sale right now from Academy. $67.99 for 12 entrees = $5.66 each.

I really like the rice and chicken and spaghetti, I like the chili mac but it doesn't always like me that much!

That's a good price for 12 meals. I don't like the spaghetti and not sure on the chili mac with beef, but real good price.

Actually that seems the best way to buy them (in buckets) and here is some even better pricing

I kind of like the looks of the Classic bucket

My up front cost was a "little" more (like $2500) but I make my own Mountain House style meals from my deer, elk, and other misc. meats and leftovers.

I bought a Harvest Right home freeze dryer last fall and I have been making 2 1/2 to 3 serving freeze dried meals since then. I package them in light and air tight aluminized Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers and heat seal the bags. If they don't have a high fat content, they have a 25 year shelf life.

I've made Elk Chili, Chile Mac, Sweet and Sour pork with rice, Teriyaki chicken w/ rice, chicken and rice (w/ green chilies and mushrooms), Chicken Alfredo, Cheddar broccoli chicken, scrambled eggs with onion, peppers, and ham. The list goes on and on. I have a storage room shelving unit full of them. I just grab an assortment and go.

I've used them at scout camps and camp outs and the boys love them! I know exactly what goes into my meals and I can customize them if I'm trying to maintain a specific diet. The up front cost was expensive, but not compared to buying a year supply of freeze dried emergency food for my family of 4.
