Well in order to complete my North American deer slam with a bow, I needed a Sitka Blacktail deer. I decided to hunt Prince of Wales Island on a DIY hunt. I found a bush pilot that was very reasonable and decided to fly to a little un-inhabited part of the island and get dropped at a small lake. I was thinking of which friends may want to join when my wife surprised me and said that she wanted to come. My wife is not much of a hunter but she loves the outdoors and any adventure. I assured her this was going to be a rough and tough backpack hunt and she said she was ready to go. I knew she would do great.

I began planning months ago and packed the bags several weeks before the hunt. We got my inlaws to watch the 4 kids and we were off to Ketchikan. It was a ton of fun and even though we spent much of the time there in the tent avoiding the constant rain, it was a trip that neither of us will ever forget. It is hard to describe the beauty of Alaska and even harder to describe being there in the middle of no where with no sign of people for miles. The nights in the tent were a little scary with lots of black bears and wolves on the island. My wife was way tough and we had lots of fun together despite some bad weather. I cant wait for our next adventure together.

Great story told with all those beautiful pictures. Thanks for showing them to us. Congrats on getting your buck and your slam.

That is really, really cool. After seeing all that water, I was wondering if you packed in a fishing rod? Post more pictures - I'd love to see more of your camp setup!

Jason you did great! The bucks and photographs are awesome. Way to get it done, can't wait for the next chapter.

Awesome story and pictures - congrats!!

I am sure your time spent in the tent was only partially due to the rain, but nothing wrong with that :)

Lots of time in the tent eh? Your 4 kids might turn into 5 come May! J/K, congrats on a fine deer and time spent in the back country with the one you love. Doesn't get any better than that.

sounds pretty awesome.
The rain is just part of a hunt. LOL

Awesome job Jason. Your living the dream and with a beautiful companion to go with you too. Was your wife there at the shot? She also takes some great pictures. What awesome country to catch images I of you in. BTY, beautiful deer too. That would be a hunt of a lifetime for me. Thanks for sharing it with us.

My wife was with me every step. She was WAY to scared of bears to stay in camp. She videoed and took pictures and even got the shot on film. I bought her a tag and she would have shot a deer but the weather had us in the tent for 3 days with fog and rain. She is a great little photographer. I thought the pictures turned out awesome. I bought a new little waterproof canon d10 camera and the thing takes amazing pictures.

Here are the 5 species of deer. Mule Deer, Whitetail, Columbia Blacktail, Coues Deer and Sitka Blacktail. I went from Kansas to California to Mexico to Alaska to Utah to harvest these 5 species.

Very cool! Thats one hunt I plan on doing someday. I may have to bring the little woman with me like you did, looks like alot more fun that going solo. Congrats on your deer slam with a bow, great job.

Wow, awesome accomplishments Jason! Most will never see or have that. You?ve done your homework, executed and made the shot count, all with a bow. That's a very tough feat, good on you!

Congrats on such an amazing accomplishment. You really know how to get it done with a bow. Very impressive! I think it's even cooler that you were able to share that experience with your wife.
